I own a 1985 Vegas V-bottom and have a question about it's PAD? On either side of the pad there are two .250" Aluminum, 1"x1"angles cut at 5" long. Can you guys tell me if this was a factory mod or did the previous owner (original owner) add them. I've attached two pictures of them... what do you think, are they there for added stability?
Thanks for any help!!!
Scott:)

That sucks!!! I hate when people who don't know what they are doing, add stuff on/modifications. They have been there since I've owned the boat(three years). I wounder how the boat will respond without them?

I didn't know there was a old vs. new style pad on Vegas V-bottoms! What's the difference? It should be a easy fix to fill in the screw holes, just want to make sure I seal those holes right. I wounder if there will be a difference in the ride/ performance? This is my first HydroStream and the only one I've ever driven...I don't have anything to compare the way it rides to...

It helps to get on plane, doesn't affect mid range to any point that you would be able to notice, and on top end they are out of the water. i would leave them

the action really isnt an action  its a splash of the 18 with a different bottom. I think this is why i DO NOT have to drive that boat wat so ever untill 92-93+mph. Its a joke to drive, my mom drove it to 79 with the trim tucked almost all the way in her first time in the boat :p however the vegas is much more practical, it doesnt take water over the transom while floating around hangin out. Takes the rough much much better, i was out yesterday in the salt water and when i put it back on the trailer i knew i would have gotten my arse whooped if i took the action in the same conditions. Plus the vegas is much cleaner :D

i have a 6in bobs hydraulic plate, was rigged when the boat was in 87. still works great
yours is a vee right? hard to see for sure pics are small. i never would have thought a tan interior would look that good!
do you have a factory bow light? i need that handle and gas cap to add to my new gauge bezels and steering wheel :p
Mariner245
02-26-2008, 10:19 AM
Yes, it's a V. I'm not crazy about the tan seats, I'll be upgradeing that and the carpet soon. I also want to put new guages with red bezels in soon. My jack plate only has 2.75" of set back so I'm going to add at least 4" of setback to that, maybe even 6". It's a fun work in progress...:D

Hydrostream put them there to break the suction that the stern has against the water when you first get on plane, mine was an 85 and it had them, the Vulture had them as it was before the Vegas,my buddies late 85 model had a different pad and no bars on it. I'd leave them on if I were you.they don't affect top speed at all.

I took them off but then read the other posts to this thread and put them back on sealing the holes with 5200. Very cool boat and very cool paint...:)
Kevin~
With set back, I thought the more power you have the less set back you need. 12" of set back seems like a lot for a Vegas running a 260.

the hydrostream int suggest 10"set back for voyager/vegas xt. i have a 10 and 12 and both run about the same. the 200efi gets about 73 [bobs 10] and the 200xs is at 78 [w 12 para-lift].

I think mine is a old Land & Sea, but I'm not sure. It's hydraulic but only gives my 2.75" of set back. I want to go back at least 4" but maybe I should go back 6" with a set back plate. Any opinions:confused:

get a fixed jack plate from stainless marine of 6 inches, then bolt you hydrolic to it:)

These aluminum strips were not an add on, they were installed from the factory on some of the 20 footers for a reason. Leave them there.
Here you can see them on my vulture.

with a properly set up boat you wouldnt know if they were there or not! how much effect could 6in of 1in angle iron have on a 20ft 800lb boat? i would take them off, put an allen key on a drill and dig out all the rot then inject westsystem

THE WINNER:D :D ;)
If they've been there from the factory, don't you think that the rot would have wicked far further than an allen key on a drill would get to? If they've been leaking, there's more trouble than just the area surrounding the hole. Just my thought.
baja200merk

if u know it "wicked" further then that then your boat should look like streamin101 right now gettin a new core ;)

Yup....but for those who don't know, they will now....

Frank or any one else...Do any of you guys have a new hydrostream Vegas XT and if so i would love to see the bottom pad design. I understand they have made several changes. I have an 89 XT with and Erude running 95 at 2800 ft density altitude. Lots of googies on it. I'm not sure how to add pics to a reply. I'm looking for a larger set back about 12 inches. With my current set up of 6" it requires full trim to hit max speed. How hi can you set the engine? it looks to be 2 to 2.5" below the pad. I'm trying to get into the triple digits but the altitude is killing me. I have never run this powerhead at sea level but the old stocker was 12 mph faset down there.
