both about the same.I would always want a little more that the 2.5 has but not much difference other than a little low end grunt advantage with the 2.5.I have had 2.4's that were faster on top but slower out of the hole.2.5's are going to be newer too so thats something to think of.There are many parts being manufactured for both at places like Pro Marine and Mercury.:)

I am going to have to agree with hot shot on this one. 9 years of drag racing and the 2.4 for me did a better job then the 2.5 in a stock application 200 hp. it would spin up quicker and turn a little more rpm. i will not say that the 2.5 with a big wheel may be better but it was my belief that i could do more with the 2.4 then the 2.5. again this is not a race application. i think the question the man needs to ask everone is what is his intention for the motor he buys. if you are just getting into high performance boating then find a nice 2.4 on ebay or this site cheaper a few mods like velocity stacks some jets, relieve exhaust and go to the water. see what it is all about then move up. Jay smith does awsome work with race motors and maybe someday he will build a mod motor but stock i guess it depends on the use and application. i guess if you are offshore fishing it does not matter. thanks guys see ya around
