18436572 Firing order of a small block chevy
153624 Firing order of a chevy straight 6 (that's easy, too young, too old, just right)
8 x 3.48 x 3.14 x 2 x 2 calcs for a chevy 350 v8
9600 x 24 x .535 x .0009486 x .9 speed calc for an outboard drag boat spinning a 24" pitch prop at 9600 rpm thru a merc gear ratio
All my past phone number
All my past addresses
The neighbors phone # from when I was less than 10 years old
I don't need speed dial or a phone book usually when calling a business I've called before.
If I had liked math in school I would probably have done real well, but barely squeaked by, probably because it did not interest me.
Etc.....

I did not look up any of the above while typing this post.

I can recall number sequences in a kind of spooky way. Sometimes names, but only if I play word association. Like if someone says her name is Laura, I say to myself Dr. Laura.

I can play a guitar song that I have not played in 10 years if I start at the beginning and don't think about it. (Reflex memory?)

I know way too many song lyrics.

Thank God for spell check.

I have trouble remembering which drawer my socks are in.

Sometimes I open multiple cabinets to find the cereal.

If I move a light switch, I always reach for the old spot.

I can go out to feed the dogs and forget why I'm out there.

My short term memory seems to be fading pretty fast.
Brain function and memory facinates me, but I've never really taken any time to study it. I do think it's time I start practicing memory excercises. I was wondering if any of you have wierd clutter in your head you can't purge to make room for important stuff, and what kind of things do you do to improve your memory skills?

I remember my childhood savings account number, hanven't had that account for 15 years.

I still remember .0821, the constant from the PV=nRT gas law formula. Chem II from senior year of high school, gosh, that was 12 years ago.

I remember taking a bath in the sink as a baby, pissing under my bed, and taking a sh** in the front yard when my diaper was off. :D

I used to record my farts onto a tape recorder, but then my mom took away my fart tape.

I find that I need to sleep enough and eat enough salt to have as good of the poor memory that I was born with, IMO anyway. If I sweat it out in the summer I have to eat salt to stay with it but I never have ate much of it. I remember things important to me but other stuff goes out the window....it will come back easily if I prod it like if I do it again after a long time. Making formulas in excel is good exercise for that. I think certain things in diet also affect it, like maybe oils and sugar, etc. I will not eat anything out of bare aluminum except maybe a pie/etc that is mostly dry against the metal. Ok once in a while I grill stuff in foil like vegetables, but never put tomatoes/acidic things in it. I never have memorized things well, much better at a process I learn. Math was really easy except for theorems and econ formulas. Good thing for the memory in the calculator to give me tips. In reality I never saw the point in stuff like that, either you will work with something complex daily and know it...or you will get out a reference to it if you don't. What is the point of having to know it that well, you should know how to use it not memorize it. Often if I go back over old stuff it comes back, but before that I can't tell you much off the top of my head. I worked for a guy from the airforce....he was older and like a walking library. He drank milk every day. You could ask him anything on the news today or past history and he just knew it all. It was a challenge to stump him, and if you did he knew all about it in an hour or less. Guy was amazing, I've met few people like that. He was very smart also, as an engineer he could figure things out and was always thinking of stuff ahead of time.

I follow the Smokey Yunick way. The brain is for thinking, books are for remembering. :D
