with a bunch of progressions, supers, i now see a 23 ghost??,and an intimadator.the oceanside/island park waters will be S.O.B territory, tanner park??. with jones inlet 5 minutes away it dont get any better. bash did a great job of getting the tanner gang to head west last summer. this season will only be better.short beach is ideal, plenty of slips, 93 octane in point lookout. whe just dont have alot of flat water but who cares.

what up larry, this season is looking real good already. im counting 6 progressions alone, 4 supers and many other s.o.b`s. you should be running 85+, and not afraid of a little rough water either.

Im going to be finishing up the 23 ghost race deck this summer with my dad (jeff kalibat) who is the original builder...Im gonna start to learn the trade...Boat will have a 300 Vmax and is projected to run over 90...needs about 140 hours (2-3 weeks in june when the yard slows down) to complete so hopefully its done by end of june and I can start running it

ive spoke to jeff about this boat a couple of years ago, and wondered if it would ever be finished. there are many doubters out there concerning the ghost`s capabilities. ive had many arguments backing up the ghost, so here we go. start your on thread on this build with some pics. it will be a great boat especially with the 300 yammi.

EDDY...i have to agree(although i am a bit partial):D :D the ghost is a very capable boat.....with the 300 yamaha properly set up it should have no problem keeping up with most of the other SOB's out there....the bottom works very well on that boat....most of the 23's around are not properly set up....

i am actually excited to see that thing finally out of the mold....:) :)

The build isnt gonna start till around june when the yard slows down...and for the doubters they should check out some vintage APBA tapes and see that the Ghost had no problems keeping up... it was the superboats, shadows, checkmates, and others chasing the 23 ghost in 3-4's in Key West:D ...same went for the 28

When the build does start ill be sure to take pictures

Hoy $hit!!! I must be getting old!!! Jeffs your dad?? I remember your grandfather coming to the shop almost every day seeing how our boat were built. Next thing there was a Ghost!!!Awesome running boats for those of you who are too young to know. They ( Jeff was world champion with a 23 I think) are great running hulls, and Jeff was one of the best drivers I've ever seen in my life. Tell your dad to get back in the drivers seat and show these guys how it's done.

yup Jeff's my dad. My dad said he worked very close with john before he built the ghosts and said it was a big help to see them being built. My dad did win the APBA worlds in 1982 in the 23' and then moved up into the 28' which he won 83 Nat'ls and the 84, 85, 86, and 87 Worlds in... Then I came along in 89 literally hours before they were going to the worlds at the Trump and ruined it all:D Im trying to convince him to race that patchoge race in August in the new 23' im going to hopefully finish this summer with him but we'll see wat happens tho

When I heard you guys talking about a 23Ghost I said to myself, no can't be the same kind of boat, then I saw the video that Ghost S84 put on u-tube and saw it was. Someone ownes one of those 23Ghosts here in Bermuda, was brought here back in the 80's and raced it, won a few races, beautiful looking boat and runs amazing. Like the Challenger21 she was way ahead of her time. I'd love to have one. Havn't seen her in a few years (hope she's OK). Hopefully someone is restoring her and I'll see her out there this year. I think I'm going to ask around, see if I can locate her. Who knows maybe they are willing to sell her to me, SWEET :reddevil:. I'll keep everyone posted.

By the way superboat 21, beautiful rig, looks almost untouched since factory, congratulations keep it old school, maybe a new paint job later but I'd run with the original for a season or two. I would get rid of that swim platform though, :nonod: tacky. Thats like putting a baby seat in the front seat of a Farrari. :D
Good luck.

Yes there was an orange 23 ghost sent down to bermuda...the boat was raced in the round the isle race in 2005 and im pretty sure that the boat is still in good shape...im going to be building a new 23' this summer its prob gonna be last one ever created (unless i find my way into the business and bring em back)... someone (GMD) will be selling a very clean 23' soon on this site but its got the high deck not the race deck you've seen

Thats her, beautiful isn't she? Thats probably a newer paint job but for most of the time she has been here it has been her original orange gel. 2005 I believe has been the last race year she ran, she has been raced on and off since the 80's and won many races. The original owner I believe was Derek Simons who also spent some time after owning the Ghost racing a 24ft Skater with twin 2.4's in the U.S.
Sorry for throwing this thread off subject, we should start one under this subject.

Hey Jon,
Here are some pics I have of the Ghost down here in Bermuda. These are from 1984 and as you can see, its running as good as ever! The boat is currently in the boat yard in St. Davids. If you turn into the main gates turn right and drive to the boat yard around the back. It's sitting in the back right corner. That's where I saw it last. From what I hear the boat is finished, needs major work and might have a hole in it. Maybe you can fix her up and let me co-drive her in the Round the Island :P I'm looking for a boat to race! Enjoy the pics!

You got it, but I'll have to see, being her age and what she has already accomplished it may be better off to retire her to a pleasure boat. With all these newer designs and new age materials they are making boats out of these days it may not be worth beating her up any more. Make her look good and run fast . Ill keep you posted.

Better be careful that boats getting old and no matter how good a quality any boat was when built with, 20 years of wear and tear can cause the boat to crack very easily if raced offshore...im going to be building a new 23' this summer and it should run over 90mph with a vmax 300...put a 300x on it and u might approach 100 with a true race setup

Jon, if you do decide to buy it I'd be more than happy to help get her back to her former glory with you this summer. I know of a couple other race boat projects in Bermuda that I want to take on but don't want to bite something too big at this stage. One is an OLD Ring 20 and another is a Skater 21. The Ring is in decent condition and just needs transom work and can be had for cheap ($3,000ish). I haven't seen the Skater but was told $10,000 for it (no motor obviously). Just idea's to think about.

The old Ring 20 is purple and yellow with black marble over it - not the prettiest thing you'll ever see. It's been raced once or twice back in the day but has since been kept in St. George's. It was kept in the water with bottom paint and is called 'True Colours' if I remember correctly. If you want to know the owners name just pm me and I'll let you know. He's looking to sell it for sure.

Another Ring is newer and is put on the market and taken off every summer. It's white with a blue deck and is on the water today - not sitting in a yard. It's called 'Shaken not Stirred'. The owner said he might put it back up for sale towards the end of summer. He was asking $7,000 or $8,000 with a 'modified' Yamaha 200? Not sure what the motor is, but it's not a V-Max. I like this boat alot.

I've never seen the Skater but heard about it through my cousin who used to race boats. His friend owns it and if you want I can get in touch with him about it.

The twin Merc Velocity apparently just sold so that's now off the market.

The Phantom 18 that runs in FB class is for sale for $15,000. It shouldn't sell for that price so leave it a while and it will come down in price.

If you know of any other race boats for sale I'd love to know about them. I probably won't be able to buy them with my limited budget for now, but you never know.

In thinking back on old race boats I think my cousin used to race the orange Ghost in Bermuda. Does anybody know what boat D-420 was? It was definetely the orange/red colour. I'll have to speak to him when I get home from school.

There is a 23 Ghost racing class 7 of the OPA Bay Rats, boat runs awesome. I guess it's actually a 21, the swim platforms stretch it to the 23'.

Yeah I saw that it was really old, not sure how I came upon it but thought if anyone was still out there following these boats they might enjoy knowing there is still one out there and is very competitive. Awesome boat. Believe it came up from Florida some time this past summer.
