Hello,
I am hoping for some input/assistance. Does anyone know the overall purpose of the Salmon/Pink colored wire in the external harness. According the attached diagram it connects to grnd in the off position. What does this wire feed, is it a secondary grnd and or?
The reason I ask is due to panel thickness, new ign placement, I am considering using a basic starter switch, can I and/or must I use a Merc switch? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Have a Great Day! Spudman.

I checked several wiring dig. and the salmon wire isn't used on most models. Not used on any of the inline 6 from 950 up. The controls are used on all the models and only a few use this wire.Merc 500s,650s,400and older 4cyl magneto motors to name a few use this wire. I'm sure it's a unused wire on the 1500xs.You can wire up an ign switch with a run ,start and off positions . Great looking project , Glen.

Hey Glen,
Thank you for taking the time to review/answer my question.
I did check open wire loom continuity to grnd (there was none), it did go to/thru the original switch/controls with continuity in the off possition as suggested by the diagram (I did not have a key to check the on position). I did not see it come out on the internal side and assumed it went dead.
You have confirmed my thoughts suspecting it was an unused wire for possibly a magneto type ignition and I really appreciate your time :D The switch will be mounted thru mahogany near up-dated shifter placement, it makes it much easier to use a standard brass switch with longer shank. It is a fun project and getting very close, Have a Great Day! Brian
