View Full Version : Point Park River Run Schedule in Carrollton Kentucky August 22, 23, & 24

Racing, Poker Run, and a Whole Lot of Fun for All!
There will be all kinds of Outboard Boats, Jet Boats and V-Drives. All are Welcome. Race Classes for all.
There will also be inflatable toys there for the kids. Slides and a Jump House for example.
Racing:
We will have a horn start. There will be a pairing buoy setup in front of the start buoys. You need to be paired by the first buoy. The boat closest to the shore will be the pace boat at 1500-1800 RPM. After passing the pairing buoy once you are even the horns will sound. Be ready because it may not be exactly at the start buoy. The horn can be sounded anytime after passing the pairing buoy.
We still need quite a few volunteers. We especially need people to handle Registration, T-Shirts, and the Betting. The more people the more we rotate people so they don't have to put in a lot of their time. If volunteers could get a partner to rotate with. I think that would work well. We need to cover at least half a day for 3 days.

Schedule of Events
Safety Rules & Class Rules
Grudge Racing can be run anytime there is not an official race class being held. Go and have a blast!
Point Park River Run T-Shirts will be available at $20 each. Pics of the shirts are at the end of the 4th page!
Event Schedule:
Friday August 22nd Many people and boats will be arriving throughout the day. The race course of 800 feet will be set in the morning. Grudge Racing and Boat Setup will take place throughout the entire day. Overall a great day to enjoy the surroundings!
Saturday August 23rd 8:00 AM Drivers Meeting: Drivers for both the Unlimited and the Super Mod classes need to be present. First we will review the class rules and emphasize good hard honest racing. Then we will cover starting procedures and safety rules. We will also meet with the local water patrol and follow their guidelines. Entry fee is $25 each will be collected. All drivers must sign the waiver form in order to race in any class!
9:00 AM: Unlimited class will start racing. These boats really need good water because they are extremely fast and exciting to watch. Guys will push these boats to their limits and hit triple digits in the 800 feet. These are not your every day ski or bass boat. The same goes for the Super Mod boats. These boats will also reach triple digits. This will awesome to watch. Any time before the racing starts we will have a Pari-mutuel Betting Station for anyone who would like to bet and possibly win some money while enjoying the racing action. There will be a computer program setup to handle the bets and payouts. 15% of the total money taken in will be donated to the Shop with a Cop Charity. Betting will be limited to Win and Runner Up. None of the special bets, like the Trifecta, will be taken. (Trying to Keep Simple)
The Super Mod Class will start after the Unlimited Class is finished. The estimated time to finish both classes will be around 11:30 AM. All depends on number of boats. Then we have the Big Daddy Motors Racing. This will be the fire breathing Jet and V-Drive Boats. There should be some blower motors, turbo motors, and some combination with alcohol as the fuel. There will be big blocks, small blocks, and all makes. This will be bad to the bone!
4:00 PM: We will start the Poker Run. It is $20 a hand to play. We will collect the hands around 8:00 PM. Winners and Runners Up will be announced for the racing classes and presented with plaques. Then we will announce the Poker Run Winners.
Sunday August 24th 8:00 AM Drivers Meeting: Drivers for both the Pro Mod and the Lake Racer classes need to be present. First we will review the class rules and emphasize good hard honest racing. Then we will cover starting procedures and safety rules. We will also meet with the local water patrol and follow their guidelines. Entry fee of $25 each will be collected. All drivers must sign the waiver form in order to race in any class!
9:00 AM: The Pro Mod class will start. These are production looking boats but some fast motors! They will surprise you. This class should be done around 10:30 AM. Then the Lake Racer Class will start. These are production boats with almost stock motors and 4 seats. We hope to see a lot of first time racers in this class. This is a class pretty much any boat can get in and at least try it. It is a ton of fun! After each class is out of the water we will present the winner and runner up with plaques. After this nothing is planned. Most people will start to pack up and head for home. We just need to make sure our areas are clean and picked up.
Boat Race Classes and Requirements
Entry Fee for all Racers in all Classes is $25

General Point Park River Run Recommendations
Please remember we are guest of Carrollton. None of this would have happened without their blessing. Therefore respect all Carrollton citizens. Follow all suggestions given by the water patrol or police. Don’t drive anywhere if you have had too much to drink. Please get a driver. Make sure your area is clean when you leave. Let’s show Carrollton that race boaters are great people and appreciate the chance to race in their town.

Looks great.
The only comment I have is on Saturday morning you should run jets and v-drives in the middle slot. Therefore unlimited boats can run first, and then run V drives/jets and give the unlimited boats time to get set up for super mod at the end of the day.

Good idea.
Although I really worry about water conditions. Last year it was bad for Unlimited. We can always give the guys time to come in to their trailer for changes.
How about a compromise?
THANKS!

I am not sure about the connections available. The one that stayed was the big bus camper that had it's own generator. I think that was Galen Burden?
I still have to encourage renting rooms. That is the one way Carrollton judges the success of the event by counting the number of rooms rented. I will know on rates soon.
THANKS!

Shirt design idea. Have Point Park River Run on the front like the S&F shirts. Then on the back look into gettin a finishline graphic with a Hydro, Jet/V-Drive, and STV/T-3. I also want to be shown the rooster tails behind the boats. I will look into it. If they can fit 4 boats in the graphic I would add a Allison.
What do you guys want a 50/50 shirt or 100% cotton. I am thinking white or the light grey for color of the shirt.
Opinions please.
THANKS!

No word on the Grant.
I have not heard on any rate breaks yet. Please copy and post with a schedule if you have posted a schedule already.
I talked with Greg Davis the head Water Patrol Officer(Also on the Tourism Committee) and he said there was only 32 boats last year. I told him we wanted to at least double that number. He also told me of a concern he had heard about from the local police. Normally no Alcohol is allowed in the park except for us and other events. Last year there was Alcohol plainly in site to passing locals and they were not too happy. Then they made complaints. He was not talking about a beer or two. He said it was big hard liquor bottles. We definitely have to make sure all Alcohol is not right out in the open for all to see. If we don't take care of this we could also be banned from having any alcohol in the park.   We just have to be smart about it.

i thought this racing was for fun. why would donated money go towards prize money for the race.
95RapidRiot
02-21-2008, 09:07 PM
15% of the total bets made (prize money) goes to the Charity. I am only talking if we happen to have a surplus in donated money. I figured people would want to know where their money is going. People in the past have donated just to the prize money. This way some of it also goes to the "Shop with a Cop" charity.
Although right now if we get turned down for grant money. We won't be having any event at all. No money has been turned in for anything.
I know it is early but I am not waiting until July to see if we can do it or not. I want this all planned and paid for before June. Tomorrow wouldn't be to soon for me. Some people have to plan schedules far in advance.

02-22-2008, 03:42 AM
I though right now you only wanted tent money? I don't want tent space. I would be glad to send donation, but when I hear no grant no event, that sort of makes me want to wait and see what happens. Money does just as good sitting in my account as yours until I know the event is going to happen.
95RapidRiot
02-22-2008, 08:04 AM
That is a very good point on the donations!
I sent Tourism a e-mail yesterday to find out when we will find out on the grant status.
If we get no grant money. Then we will have to come up with $2000 minimum for insurance and to pay the night security(Police Officer) to watch our boats in the Park. That would also mean No Tents, No T-Shirts, & No Pizza. There would still be betting and racing. I would need some entry fee money up front to order the Plaques for 1st & 2nd finishers. This is worse case scenario.
Then at that point we would have to decide if we can get enough money donated to cover that minimum $2000????
THANKS!

Great news on the Grant being apprioved.:) :) Thanks to all who helped in Carrollton! Now is time to really get things rolling. We have enough to cover the insurance and some other park related fees. This will also take care of the pizza. I will check into some big signs to be put up around town for the event. The grant should cover this also. I will check locally on that.
Donations acceptable also.
The POINT PARK RIVER RUN is officially going to happen. Now lets make it as good as we can! :D

Anyone have an idea how many I should order. I think around 150 - 200 have been ordered in the past. Including last year. Size recommendations also. I figured mostly L, XL, & XXL then have a few M and XXXL?????

We still need another boat chaser to help let the boats who are up know.
Someone volunteered for some signs. Sorry I did not keep track. We need some big numbers like 2'x2' so we can get the attention of the racers. 4-5 sets numbered from 1-25 should cover it. We will give numbers to the boat Chasers and Start boat.
We also need 5 people who would hand out the cards for the Poker Run at the different spots.
Please pay your tent fees. I am going to have tents paid for by June 1st. No matter whether that is 1 tent to 4 tents. I am letting all the people helping significantly have a free tent space. I feel that is at least something for their time and effort.:)
I would like to be able to post ahead of time most of the people racing and their boats and what class. Then people can start lining up their bets. Then when boats arrive and setup on Friday all the locals can get into the betting also. More bets means more winnings and more money to Charity.
The guys who said Performance Propeller, KLotz, and maybe a Motor auction please keep me posted. Would like to give them some publicity on other sites as well as this one.
THANKS!

There will also be some Big Inflatable Toys there for those that want to bring the family. This will also give the local kids some more things to do. Hopefully this will also help getting a bigger crowd for the races. They have 9 different things to do. They are not going to setup everything. They have a obstacle course, slides(water), bounce houses and some others. Let me know if there are some favorites. This company is also local.
Still working on the shirts.

Do you think $20 plus $2 to cover shipping is fair? They will be $20 at the event.

Either way that chick was a HUGE.
Allright so who's in???
I heard there is a VERY heavy hitter heading up from the south that should pretty much have anyone covered???
Yammer you out there???? You and your Ally buddy bring that new boat down for an ass kicking??
I talked to your friend WarlockFag and he said he heard you are going so he is in. He got a new party boat and it might be the start barge!!!!
I heard baby face from long island "No-nut" and his dad are bailing so at least the 20 year old local chicks are free for the picking.

I know in 06, there was a keg and beer floating around everywhere. The cheerleaders looked more drunk than anyone, the police seemed like they didn't care (Hell I thought the police was having as much fun as all of us). :leaving: I guess a holy roller must have saw how much fun we was having and got mad and told on us.

He and Rich Sernic ran in the finals of I believe Super Mod and Unlimited. Alan Zulke's blown Sanger Hydro won Jet and V-Drive class which ended up combined with the Lake racer boats.
Would have loved to see Dixon line up with Zulke in a grudge run.

I'm not too sure of the gas total, but I'm sure my empty aluminum cans will help take care of the gas bill. Later, Dave
