There was a shooting at NIU. They're reporting 15 people were transported by Kishwaukee Hospital. The shooter is dead.

Leave it to my generation to start sending this nation to hell in a hand basket. What the hell? I'm ashamed to say that I'm part of this generation. Not only are we nuts, but we also expect handouts. This seriously pisses me off.

I hope she is okay even though she was lucky enough not to be there. I am sure her pain and anxiety will be no different then those who were there. It will take the best of your generation to work thru the hurt and come to accept that what happened did so because of one indvidual and not a group or generation. I want to believe the person who did this like the ones in the past are sick - It is just very hard to come to grips with what makes them sick and have to result to such horrific crimes.

Yeah. I don't get what's going on though. This stuff never happened back when my dad was in school. I mean, think about it. Back in the 80's and 70's all you had to worry about was a fist fight. And when that was over, you were able to walk away. Now you have to worry about people coming back with guns. It's such bull.

Yeah, even when I was a kid (I mean elementary school...I'm only in college) we never had to put up with this crap. This didn't start until 98 or 99. I say, somehow there needs to be a damn reform and we need to go back to the days of a fist fight and then beer. I'd just like to experience it. It seems like it was a better time.

This is very tragic. Every generation has it's fair share of bad apples. There are plenty from my generation like the kids that committed the browns chicken murders in palatine. But yes, these instances do seem to get worse and more frequent as the years go by. As long as there are people like you Switz, your generation will be fine.

Thanks M_K. I kind of get yelled at by the girlfriend last night for saying that. I realize I jumped the gun on that and let my emotions get in the way of clear thinking. It really is unfortunate that people believe that they have to resort to this type of violence. I remember the Brown's chicken murders. If you want to hear something REALLY freaky, there was a guy in Carol Stream that was raping, murdering, and chopping women up in the mid to late 90's. He lived DOWN THE STREET from me. They found out that he had murdered 7 women and buried them in the Wayne forest preserve. It was nuts because one of my buddies lived next door to the guy. Anyway, thanks again for the compliment. I realize my generation will be ok. It just seems that the bad over shadow the good at times.

I don't know what the story is with this, but coping skills are the next thing we are removing from our children. It's basically a three pronged attack using pills, political correctness tied to fair/equal, and week parent's that can't say no.

Actually Liqui-fly, you're right on. The kid (not really a kid he was a 27 year old grad student at U of I) was medicated and stopped taking his medication 2 weeks ago. They said he was behaving erratically and stuff. And sure enough, he drives up to NIU and shoots the place up.

think about if everyone carried guns I know it sounds DUMB......BUT

someone stands up on a plane and says I'm taking over....Ummmm No your not

someone walks into a mall and starts shooting ...ummmm No your not....

It might curb violence so I guess it's cowboy up!!!!

So... apparently now the WBC (Westboro Baptist Church) is not only protesting the funerals of dead soldiers, but also the tragedy that happened yesterday. These people go to funerals for soldiers and hold up signs that say "Thank God for dead solders" and "Thank God for IEDs". Their main purpose is that God is persecuting the US for allowing and accepting homosexuality.

No respect. that is what it boils down to these days. You see more of these kinds of stories plus cop shootings, car jackings, home invasion robberies and a slew of other violent crimes. The root cause is that the judicial system has failed miserably. These criminals get only a proverbial slap on the wrist (if they don't get killed while committing the crime) from the courts. Nobody is afraid of doing any crimes anymore because there is no strong execution of law. Even the "first offenders" such as these punks who shoot up schools have no fear of the law because there is no real consequence for their actions. A lot of this come from upbringing and the lack of values. There are a lot of things that can be blamed, but it all starts at home.

On the gun note:
I am all for every law-abiding American to carry a firearm for self-defense and am for laws to protect us if we happen to kill a carjacker or burglar. The pronblem is, the states have control of who and how weapons may be carried and used....I think the Feds should have that control..... Let all law abiding citizens carry and give them amunity if they kill someone in self-defense or in the defense of someone else. Too many peole go to jail for being a victim. And at the same time, make it a federal offense and stiff penalties if you use the weapon or kill someone in anger.

I agree that if somone kills another person in self-defense that they should be granted immnunity. However, there are a ton of people out there that don't know how to carry a gun. Loaded with the hammer cocked isn't the way to do it. Believe me, I'm a huge proponent of guns because I'm a hunter. But there's stuff that ensure the safety of others around you that you need to be aware of. You can't just give a gun to any idiot and say "here protect yourself." Because that's when the whole "weakling with a gun" thing comes into play and they start fights because they have that protection on them. And the more the American people are exposed to that idea, the more they are going to be willing to just take their aggression out through the use of firearms.
