Hey there, am running a cougar mtr21 with a mazco re4 30p but I still too stick to the water and the rpms still 7200 running at 93 mph, what could happen if I chnge it to a cleaver 4 blade 30P or cleaver tree blade 30p?
The 3 and 4 blade would have better stern lift and the 3 blade may actually run faster. Experiment.:)

For top speed I run a 14.5"x28.0" 3 blade spinelli clever @ 6500 rpm. Our 21.0' cougar runs 91 mph pushed by a stock 225 pm.

My friend went from 92 to 96 in his 21 Cougar Merc EFI 260 by going from a big ear chopper to a small ear chopper. Less bow lift and drag I guess.
Also, check your prop centerline height to make sure you are above the center sponson. Cougar set back brackets are a little low. Even with the jack plate all the way up, the prop centerline might still be a couple inches below the bottom. That will cost you a lot of speed.

I have a 22MTR with a 300x and am spinning a Mazco RE3 30 pitch. I have had it up to 104MPH with good water conditions. My ET 28 3 blade runs around 97MPH. The other guys I see with 21 foot Cougars are running 32 pitch 3blades a running 110+MPH.

thank you all four your coments. I will buy a mazco 30p 3 blade cleaver to experiment. I have 260hp engine, compresion still 155psi and using 110 octane gas. Am specting a couple of rpms more and more speed of course.

I would go with a RE3 chopper instead of a cleaver. Unless you need more bow lift.
