Seems like I remember there being a Arneson surface drive conversion for jetboats advertised in Hot Boat in the 80s.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

Or even remember them.

Seems like they claimed a big increase in mph, if I'm not mistaken.

Since we all know that jetboats are mostly- "all loud show and no go", I always wondered if this would be a good alternative.:D

That was available but was not a big seller as most jet guy really do not want to go fast. I do not know if it still a production item.

Call Rick at Arneson Research. 415-485-0788. He is the man.

Borg Warner was marketing the Arneson drive for a short period as an alternative to a single jet or single I/O. They suffered from a number of issues, such as a large turning radius, little to no bow lift and a nasty propensity for spinning the boat out in turns. These drives work best on twin cat applications.

I have them on my 26 Hustler and have not had any issues at all.

No bow lift - very true, a surface drive is not designed to create bow lift. Arneson always uses plates mounted like trim tabs but they warp, not hinge, thus creating either a rocker or a hook. They control the boat attitude. Without some form of tabs you will never get the performance the drive is capable of delivering.

I am working on my third Arneson set up, all with turbine power, and have had 0 problems. I will admitt I have been lucky to have had some very expert advice on set up before any of them hit the water.

The latest still under construction.

Wrong again you scaley old lizard -

The holes will be in the prop shroud, not the bronze wing. If you look real close, you will see the shroud is not installed yet.

Geoo indeed, but it was in the upper 120's when he sold it. George put years and years into mighty mouse making it faster. Probably the most remarkable boat I have even seen considering the hull speed of an older 18 donzi, and his almost doubling it keeping the wet side down.

A lot of the northern guys know this boat, it is the ultimate sleeper.

Always thought that boat looked cool with those drives when it was up for sale.

It is still some what for sale. I really like the motor/drive combo. It's really good on gas. Thats why I took it down. It's the first boat i have not had to do anything to other then change the oil in the last two years.
