300 sportsmaster shifting backwards

recently had the bearings, seals and driveshaft changed in a 300 sportsmaster,when i shift into forward gear it goes in reverse and vice versa.Its the left hand case and its on the left hand motor, the shift cables has not been touch, what could have caused this to happen?

shift dog installed upside down or backwards?????? just going off of memory so may not be correct but since the unit was apart anything is possible

so would this mean that i am running forward on my reverse gear or am I running on my forward gear and just need to reverse the shift cable in the shifter?

Has been installed the wrong side of the propshaft/shift spool, lower unit will have to be torn down to fix the problem.

I agree with the above.....it will have to be taken completely down:( It's easy to do on a 3.0 liter Sporty. If you have a 2.5/300 drag then you really do have a problem. I almost sure the 300 drag can only go one way. Get back with whomever built it and good luck;)
