I am thinking of modding a 2.7 block and have a some questions. I will bore it first from 3.500 to 3.685. Want peak power/torque @ around 8-9000 rpms!!

(1) How big should the oil holes be to cool/lube exhaust bridge?
(2) Should any exhaust port work be done?
(3) Will boost ports like in a Merc work or will sleeves have to be removed and ports cut in and resleeved?
(4) Can the front crankcase be milled?
(5) Should I use the heavy or lite rods?(leaning toward lite)
(6) Should I use cast or forged pistons( ProMarine or Wisco)
(7) Should pistons be top pinned?
(8) Should I go to a custom ignition?
(9) Forget it and buy a race motor??

i love omc but your asking too much for a looper to do and be reliable 8-9k rpm is for a 260 + merc

Sounds like a job for racer.

With that high of a power band, you can bet a whole lot of port work is gonna need to be done.

Boring to 3.0 will require a relief cut on the bottom of the sleeves.

Heavy rods only for that rpm

Wisco Pistons with the pins top pinned

Forget it and buy a 3.3. You can pick them up cheaper than you can do all the work your' talking about on that 2.7 and they will still make more power.

clearly can and has been done but you'll have a bunch of money in machine work to get it there.

start w/a '93 and up block and you get "free" finger ports and it's already bored to 3.0 specs.

way less money for the performance you are after.

7500 and up = mandatory (IMO) big rods and forged (Wiseco's) pistons.
