I blew my 2006 250xs last october and had the dealer put me a new one on in warranty. Well got my boat back have put about 6 hrs on it but it not even close to the same motor as my old one. Pulled the cowl off and low and behold my new block is not that nice aluminum unpainted racing division look ,but a black powerhead. I am now wondering if this is the right replacement. My top end speed is 5 mph slower than before the motor blew. IAm I just being paranoid or what? Is the new 250 pro xs the same engine as my 250xs? Well now I have another problem my trim has quit working checked the relays and they are clicking with the trim switchs in the up and down mode. All 4 switches are working the solenoid the trim motor is not workin. Heeeeeeeelllllppppppp

I may be mistaken but i think that the only difference in the 250xs is in the PCM programming
When they put a new motor on your boat they probably reset the break in ...it will run rish for 120 minutes.
And as far as the trim relays....they can click and still not work
the return path for the current is in the relays...for example
one relay provides pwr to the trim motor wire
the other relay provides ground to the opposite wire

the fuel rails should have mercury racing printed on them and the air and fuel preasure should be 10 psi higher than stock dfi

Some of the reman 250 XS's come from Mercury painted black. The xs and pro xs are the same power heads. Have your mechanic check to make sure the throttle is opening all the way. There has also been a hand full of engines that had a problem with the sleeves turning, they will have to pull the heads to check the port alighnment. I have not seen a 300 xs come from the factory, reman or new that was painted black.

News to me. I have installed several, all were unpainted. Guess they come both ways.

Had the same problem with my trim on my 06, it was the trim motor. Apparantly a problem and Merc had a replacement for that year. Was covered by warrenty
