First two problems.. They are not using a GT150.. They are using a GT160.
Second problem is the engine is the motor is a 85hp Flow4, Not the 135hp Flow 4 used in the movie.. Havent seen the results yet but I seem to remember the jump in the movie was a record breaking jump of around 100ft.

Isn't the 160 a rarer boat than the 150?

OK well the whole Idea of the myth they were testing is can you actually jump a boat like that and survive… Fun to watch even if Adam pulled an adam… Should have known by the way he powered the RC boat….LOL:rolleyes: :D

It wasn’t all that bad actually. All the hardware was their except the wind shield struts were broken. No holes in it, It had the original transom and not some glassed together mess so redoing the boat will be pretty easy. Separate the two halfs, core the bottom, put in 4 small stringers and a small floor. Cover the splash well and replace the transom with an enclosed unit and knee braces. Add a stepped pad and a Hot rod V4.. Bingo 75mph James bond boat!

GT-150s are cool boats and dime a dozen round here. And alot of garage transom jobs. 375 maybe with motor and controls. GT-160 are the open bow thingy...Nevermind I was thinking GX-150.
Wonder what that V12 block is in the background?

I think thats an Inline6 Diesel block.
I offered the guy 50 bucks and I would strip it of the motor and bring my own trailer... He didnt bite.

I doubted from the beginning that those guys knew enough about boats to pull off the jump. When I saw the boat and motor I knew they were in trouble.
If you are going to watch it when it runs again in a few days, just watch the last 10 minutes if at all.
For the real movie stunt they used a souped up 135 and added some strakes to the bottom of the boat. Jamie's "calculations" that the jump could be done at less than 45 mph was a second flag of trouble to me. I think the real stunt was done at 52 mph. Maybe Jamie did his calculations based on the top speed their boat could go and that is why they built the steep 15 degree ramp.
They said they had to make it remote control due to "insurance" reasons ... I think it was because they knew they could not make the jump successfully.
At least they did give the movie stunt guys credit for being able to really do the jump. The greatest conclusion they could come to was that the boat was not significantly damaged by the crash, duh! They did not even attempt a second try.
In my opinion they should have left the boat jump segment out, it made them look low budget and ignorant; maybe first impressions are correct.

This is one of my all time favorite movies. I went to see it at the theater.
I did think it was lame to use an outboard sound for the second boat he drove. Oh well, It`s Hollywood!

Don't get too proud on that white motor ... it had to be souped up to pull off the height and length of the jump :)

Go to the Mythbusters forum and let them know what they did wrong. They read the forums to see what the people who watch the show think.

What did they do to the motor. Years ago I read in popmec I believe that the only thing done was routing the water out the cowling for the bullet hole shots and they tryed different props.
Mark75H

All I know is that the motor was souped up a little because it could not reach high enough speed to make the whole distance. I assume the heads were shaved and a little bit of porting work; it wasn't anything major. That was in the press release from Glastron.
The responses on the Mythbusters forum are overwhelmingly that the guys screwed up.
In a way they didn't ... they produced a segment that teased us and made us watch. The draw back is that we may not come back.
For me the sad part is that people remember what they see better than what they are told. People will remember seeing the boat crash, not that Adam schpeeled out an epilogue explaining away their mistakes and giving credit to the stunt crew who pulled off an extremely difficult trick - people will be watching Live and Let Die for years and saying "I saw that on Mythbusters ... the boat couldn't have really done that":mad::mad:
I always thought they just used a Racing Stinger or Strangler V4 powerhead on the stock production mid. Kind of had that sound to me!
We had a guy here in town that had one on his stock mid on a Switzer.

Filming Mike painting The Mackinaw Bridge ! They also made him walk (climb) the main suspension cable from the road deck all the way to the top to "change" some light bulbs !! Pretty awesome view

They were up here at the airbase to blow things over with a jet engine. Could'nt do it in the fun governors state. They had a blast here too, and hopefully will be back. When I saw the ramp built out of the flimsy tube, I new it was all over. It was too short and too steep.

Jamie's resume includes being a boat captain ... doesn't mean he knows squat about outboard boats
From what I have always read, filming and TV stuff on the water is extremely time consuming compared to the same work on land. I bet they did not realize how much more time and money it would take to do this than a regular segment and that is why this segment looks like crap; no time or money for a redo or better ramp or boat.

I bet they reversed engineered the ramp angle based on the speed that they were able to get out of the boat :)

Those shots where both boats run up on land at the same time. The trihull running down the lawn next to the patio and into the pool! ROTFLMAO!!!! I lost my mind when I saw that as a 5 year old and brings a huge smile to my face to this day. From a boating nuts stand point that is still some of the best boat chase footage ever.:D

Great little boat. I had a 1972 in the exact James Bond colors. Bought it in 1987. The boat was immaculate. Original gel and vinyl. The boat looked brand new. It had the original 80 hp Mercury on it. No tilt or trim. It was a brutal trying to lift that motor when you were pulling up to the beach.
In 1989 I bought a brand new Evinrude 100XP and mounted it to the GT150. It felt like a rocket ship with that motor. In reality I was running mid fifties, but it felt so much faster being so low to the water.
That little boat got more attention at the ramps and beach. It was amazing.

This GLASTRON CHASE / JUMP BOAT was used by 007 to jump over Sheriff J. W. Pepper’s police vehicle in the exciting boat chase sequence in Louisiana. The distance this Glastron boat jumped during that scene set a Guiness world record. The jump measured 110 feet and was accomplished with the help of a 135 hp Evinrude outboard motor. The Ian Fleming Foundation purchased this boat from a private source.
