I have a 2.5 crank that the end of the threads is oversized from beating on it I assume. Who can re- thread these and can it be trusted ?

Ummm, you'll need more than that to chase THOSE threads, lol, if that's the same crank you had when I bought the hydro.

If there in real bad shape, take it to a machine shop & have them chase them in a lathe. It would be hard to start a die nut straight, if there real bad.I"d do it for ya , but shipping would be pretty exspensive. GOOD LUCK

I would say machine shop and a lathe also.

I don't work on Merks but I would find someone with a Greenfield "Little Giant" die set. The die is two piece and can be assembled in place on any good threads and then turned off the end to clean up the buggered end. If there are enough good thread to get started, I think this is the best method for a repair. Much easier and le$$ time than trying to pick up the thread with a lathe.

A good machine shop should be able to open up a regular 5/8 fine die to get it over the bad threads. They have to colapse the die down to get the pitch diameter anyway...
Got the die here. But shipping....
Good luck.
