Gas is so expensive here, and 1/2 the quality, that we can't even afford to run our boats anyway.

Offtopic: Your gas is not expesive.. 1 gallon ("Regular" gas -95E) costs around here (Helsinki 6th. jan. 2008) about 5,4 EUR = 7,9 USD!! and its rising, as everywhere. offtopic ends.

Who, or what group, has proclaimed California the standard for marine emissions? Just because LA is smoggy and you'll suffocate just trying to climb on the nearby mountains, the rest of the country has to pay?? Mercury and Yamaha have jacked up their 2 stroke base price to 4 stroke pricing according to the factory reps and own observance, in my opinion to basically mothball'em. There's no way with the amount of parts and labor to build a 4 stroke, it can even be priced competitive. And with the CO2 the 4 stroke puts out, you know catalytic converters are coming. I'm just rambling and probably need to study up on this. But after 36 years as a Mercury dealer, California has a big hand in the price of marine outboards and it just doesn't add up.
Once again just first reaction response, I'm gonna go do some homework on the who and why.
