Good news for those who are interested in OPC Boat racing in Ontario, Canada.
I've been approached, and have received an interesting proposal from Paul Rindlisbacher from Windsor Ontario.
He's sent me a well prepaired letter of intention and his proposal looks good for the revival of OPC in Canada.
I'd like to hear from all who are prepared to possibly come out for 3 or 4 races in the province.
Paul has a strong interest in EP- Formula V, SST 60, and Formula 1. He has also made note about SJ and SL classes as well outboard drag racing.
If there's a strong reply, we're talking about having a general meeting at the boat show in Toronto to have an open forum to discuss our options and I hope this will spark more interest in our sport.
Mart.
PM me if there's any questions.

Glad to offer up some space in our club newletter, maybe even on a regular basis, to help get the word out about this in Ontario. Send me an article or paragraph, or key points and contacts, etc...
Andrew Fralick
Toronto Outboard Racing Club
Edit: we also have a boat racing swap meet/meet and greet/bbq at the old Picton, Ontario race site (Fralick home) in early May... welcome to be involved with that, just let us know if you want to. We've had couple inboards, lots of outboard outfits and parts, an OPC FV, safety gear, etc... in last couple years.

I sure hope you guys can bring it back. To make it work you will need lots of new participants.
If you want good advise from the past I strongly suggest you get Rob Scythes and Ted Gryguc involved somehow.

OK, On a serious note, tthose interested in participating sould make the effort to vist Paul at the show and introduce themselves and give their input regarding the possibilities of joining the racing or the behind the scenes.
Volunteers are needed to help make this effort a success.
I look forward to seeing new and familiar faces at the show.

Just my thought on this subject.
SST 120 's a great class, but it never took off here in Canada,
There's already 2 excellent venues for SST120 to go to, what I propose is an option for 120 equiped boats, and it is so easy for a 120 boat to step up to F-150.
Every one needs a starting point, and with the used equipment thats readily available, one can go out and put together a 150 boat dirt cheap and have fun, rules are easy, weight according to motor displacement, carbs and KISS! (keep it simple stupid) therory. Motor mods and rules are in the APBA rule book. I'd even run a carb motor if I had to.
Any way you look at it, any class of racing it's usually "He who has the most money syndrome wins attitude." I've spent most of my efforts on being different and or, being the underdog, We've had a lot of fun, traveled and learned from my peers, with no regrets in my time involved with the sport.
Currently we have 6-8 boats in the area that are MOD U / Champ race ready, I know of 4 more former SST140 boats that fit the 150 class and 4 more hulls that fit the program as well.
So this has the possibility of a 12 -16 boat field if we make a simple class entry for anyone interested in joining in.
For actual heat races I suggest running 150's and F-1 separate, with both classes in the final run together, but scored as 2 classes like they have done in Europe.
Like I've said "just my thought's on getting more individuals out and involved".

Andrew on the CBF site has made a list of boats for the different classes.
Marty you should add the names you have to those lists. Whittington Racing would run in both FV and SST 60 as shown on the lists. At this time I do not have the time nor the funds to help out in the promotion and management side.

Are there any up-dates as to race sites, race dates, formal planning meetings, classes running? Are you running CBF rules, APBA rules? Where are you at? The lower cost CBF membership fee date is approaching. My son has to get his membership in for both CBF and Torc.
Others will need to do the same.

Surely Paul Rindlisbacher. Scott Toole or Mike have some update to post.
I have been checking Andrew's CBF board and there has not been any new posts. We have already received race notices for other races in the USA.
CBF has many of their race dates for other classes posted. There is not a mention of OPC. Positive or negative news would be appreciated.

I currently haven't heard of anything confirmed, I'm still here to support anything, I haven't talked to Paul since the boat show, or Marty since then as well...
I'm working on a few things to generate more interest, and help the TORC booth in the Canadian Motorsports Expo later this month... as well as launching the new TORCracing.ca website which I still have some work to do to finish it...
I'm almost finished promo type cards for SST 60's, and Formula V... Hounddog if you could email pics to
[email protected] and any info or names to add to Andrews list let me know...
I'll give Marty, and Paul a call and see if I can get anything else as an update.

There is no food for sale at the club house... bring your own munchies if you want something. There is a pop machine and coffee maker. PLEASE clean up after yourself and lets leave the place nicer than we found it.
There is a security code for the gate to get into the parking lot... it will not be published... come up to the gate and you'll be let in by someone. Some times it takes a minute for us to notice you there... posting you are coming will help as then we know who to watch out for. Also there is a club house number on the gate... usually no one will answer, but if we hear it ring, it reminds us to check the gate...haha.
New/interested people are welcome. These are pretty informal meetings and great opportunity to meet people with similar interests. Great place to arrange to meet someone with something for sale.
If there are any issues you would like on the agenda, please forward them to me. Otherwise your topic will be covered under 'not on agenda business' and we sometimes run out of time to get that far.

I'm just running out the door and came across this, I'm not on here much.
Many of you are always asking is this a go yet? It will never be a go unless you do something. TORC is not going to do the work to collect boats for you.
Why doesn't someone step up and take $40-$50 a head... keep a list of who put in, even put the list online here or at Fastboatscanada to keep people happy, put this in the 2008 fund to get on a race going. You should quickly get the funds to pay the insurance. Then you're on. It's up to you to bring th boats then.
If people didn't like the way Waterford went, just tell TORC. Most people in TORC have never seen a FV or tunnel hull. But they and other clubs are willing to get you on the water.
If nothing happens, or dates/locations don't work and nothing is paid... keep the pot growing for next year or refund the money or something.
When outboards were dead and we wanted to get going again, we had a meeting. We realised we had 10 guys willing to race. We stuck several class boats in one class and gone on the Dunnville OPC program. It grew from there. (I think we owe Mike Werner for this?)
The position is just reversed. Get together. Get something happening. If nothing else you have a fun time shooting ***** and having a couple drinks.

Well put Andrew.
The simple fact is we need to get on the water...combine classes and get the interest back!!!
Andrew Pm me what the cost is for the Insurance.
What site could we run at it if the insurance was paid?
Mike

I'm not the club, but would think there are opportunities at:
Waterford (TORC): FV racing, Tunnel demo
Erinsville (TORC): FV and tunnel racing
Carleton Place (OVPBC): I think opc raced there in the past, but it's narrow?
Cardinal (CBF): Kilo runs
There is talk of a TORC insured test day too.
I think that's it for 2008 in Ontario, we have CBF sanctioned events in PA and NY too. We have more Ontario sites, but man power and bank roll is the limiting factor. Volunteers are needed if there are people out there interested.
I believe the add on insurance for OPC is $350 US? I forget, not postitive. If you have capsule boats, you need divers too.
I will have the OPC banner up at the Motorsport Show and I think Scott Toole is planning on spending some time there. More than happy to put OPC content in our newsletter and on our website. You just have to submit it.

Hi All! GREAT NEWS regarding OPC racing!
Hope I’m not over stepping my bounds but I feel this is worth mentioning and getting the word out ASAP.
The cheque has been mailed in and OPC is on the schedule at Carleton Place, Ontario for June 7 and 8, 2008!! This is GREAT news!! Thanks for all those involved who helped make it happen! Now step up and help make it a great show!
F1 (Mod U?) boats have confirmed attendance and I’m not sure what other class/boats are in talks. I’ve been told this is the first time in 8 years they have raced in Canada. All the fees for insurance and sanction have been covered for the CP event, so there is nothing holding you back. THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN. If you want to be involved with your class or to help out please contact Scott Toole ASAP.
Rescue Divers have been hired from the Quebec Inboard group and you will be able to do you capsule test at the race site. They also need Ontario area divers interested in being involved and doing some training that weekend to be CBF certified to work other races in Ontario. If you’re a diver or know one and want to help get this sport going again in Ontario, again they need your help, please contact Scott.
A second race is planned for Erinsville, Ontario on July 19 & 20.
The races are CBF and APBA sanctioned. You can race with a CBF card or an APBA card!
CBF has a special 2008 price of only $75 to join the OPC category!!
Get those boats out of the moth balls and get them on the water! Competitive or not, boats need to get on the water to make this year a success and move forward!
Regardless of the OPC class, FV, SST45, SST60, SST90, SST120, F1, Mod U, etc… please let Scott know if you are interested in any way so he can keep track of those interested.
Hope to see you out there or at least helping out!!
