600hp/560 ftlb torque and this is the standard version not some tweaked factory tuner car like a Z06 Vette or GT500 Mustang, can't wait to see what the guys at PVO do to this beast!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1bad you may proceed with the bashing :D

The Vipers were originally rated at 500 h.p. What has been done to get up to the new standard 600 h.p. level?

There was a slight bore increase, a revised intake and the addition of VVT technology. other then that I don't know? Maybe they finally hooked up the last 2 plug wires :D

Ha. Love it! MOPAR OR NOCAR.
I heard rumors of 700hp coming to a theater near you.

Well with 8.4L (for now) on tap, 700hp will be a piece of cake. All it will take for dodge to raise the hp, will be a Gm or Ford to bring one out higher. Then the Dodge will trounce them like it always has. :D At least factory stock, the after market loves them chebbys and furds.

I am probably wrong but I thought they shortened the rods of the existing
8.2 litre motor, giving it an extra 0.2L of displacement, subsequently increasing horsepower by 100 ponies, approximately.

That is one bad car. How much is a new Viper these days? Hard to believe this came from the same people that brought us the K-Car:D

Don't knock on the k car, I still see plenty of them on the roads. I can't remember the last time I saw a chevy citation or Ford tempo. :D

Saw a Ford Pinto the other day. I am not sure where I passed over into the Twilight Zone.

I always liked those pinto wagons with the round porthole window. Knew a guy in high school who had a 302 in one with a BIG shot of nitrous, that thing was stupid fast :D

Back to the subject:D I would have to say my next favorite car is the Viper. At least you can get the big HP with convertible.

Shortening the rods won't do anything for displacement. Stroke is still controlled by the throw of the crank. The Gen 1 and Gen 2 cars were 488 cu. in. (8.1l). The Gen 3's were 510 cu. in. (8.3l) The new motor is 8.4l, having 1mm (.040") larger bore.

I tried out GM, and Chrysler lil cars. They rode like a John Deere, bought a 86 Tempo, rode like a dream, downside, I had to change a heater hose at 180K.:)

Maybe they shortened the rods to maintain compression with the lengthened stroke?

Vipers are a lot of fun. I'd lose my license in a week. I did get to drive a few, years ago.

The article linked above said they increased bore by 1mm to increase the displacement. Nothing about increasing stroke.

Too bad the Vette C6 has 620 hp, o well. Its like the Merc - Yami and Rude competition.

True, the Vette will make more HP, but needs a blower to do it. The Viper is still N/A.

Dodge, Ford and Chevorlette all have their sexy machines. If I had either one I wouldn't care.

I don't know, but this guy has 2 datsuns. I've watched him road race and spank vipers and vets. Watch this vid (cus word at end), he stumbles. Something about a loose bolt in the trany stopping him from going into secound gear, but still pops off 135 in a 1/4. 1970 240Z at Firbird Raceway Phoenix Az, friday night drags. http://media.putfile.com/135wmv

Looked like a 13 or 14 second car to me. Not impressed. He needs to race a real Corvette or Viper, and not someone still with their "new" car learning how to drive it.

Now if they'll just lighten the load a little they'd have a perfect all around rocket. They've been just adding horsepower now they need to send it to jenny craig!! Like the frame and more carbon fiber body parts. Then lighten the rotors, clutch, flywheel, wheels, driveshaft, and tires. Those run flats are extremely heavy. Dixon

Great ideas Michael, but unfortunately, lightweight parts costs more than adding HP. Damn thing is already going to be $100k...can you imagine if they used more carbon and added titanium hardware or something?

And dont leave out 3.55 gears. They need to do something. That new zr1 is gonna be light....real light. Just hate to see them leave so much on the table when its obvious stuff. Chevrolet went to the trouble to put a magnesium cradle in the front to lose weight. The viper is an awesome car but could stand a little fine tuning here and there. Mainly weight loss and gearing.

Blue Devil Vette is suppose to have a 6.2L giving out 650-680hp with its supercharger. Integrated manifold and intercooler. Acceleration 0-96km in 3.6 seconds. The torque is undecided.
