Hey Osprey, you have to understand that this world speed record was for a v-bottom offshore cc fish boat.

The boat has a huge t-top on it, and full windshield

This record was recorded for the market share against other large offshore cc manufacturers for comparison against brands like: Yellowfin, Sea Vee, Contender, Donzi, Invincible, Intrepid, Hydra-Sports, Jupiter, Venture, etc.

The 38 quad also weighs 13,500 lbs. dry including engines.
It feels like you are riding in car at 80 mph.

A guess to make this race a fair race, then it needs to be ran offshore b/c that is what these fishing cc's were designed for, offshore fishing.

These boats are not made for running in the river. If they were, they could shed 5-6000 lbs., and a t-top. These boats are built to win tournaments running fast in rough sea conditions.

The Talon isn't designed for offshore but it's not a river boat either. I can run in 3-4's coming from 15 different directions. Any worse than that gets a little nasty for me. It's the rollers that kill me offshore.

Mercury Cleaver 15x32's for the 100 mark but it's a little freaky and light in the back.

I'm running a pair of 30 Bravo's ventilated for everyday use. They are by far my favorite props. They aren't as fast as the cleavers but they are better "all around" props.

The bottom of that boat was designed and built by Peter, it had Skater on the side when it was originally built. The first test run to set the record was done by John Tomslin (spe?) from TNT. Peter and Reggie were going to do a joint venture some years ago. Skaters have run much faster than that.
That video was a joke!! Two pro's with a race ready boat against Johnny boater with a boat full of people. The guy couldn't even get the boat on plane and blew the motor because it had too much trim.
BTW, Peter has nothing to prove, the boats and designs speak for them self.

They have a ton of bow lift. Scott Green ran an identical pair of 26's on his 30 Baja and loved them. He said he gained 8 mph.

Jeff, Peter has designed and built the stepped bottoms for more than Fountain and Baja. I'm just not at liberty to mention the other names. Just take a close look at the Skater stepped V bottom and it will be easy to tell;) :D

the last time i saw him was about 3 yr ago in nov. at the world championships in key west, whitch he also helps promote, 1'st at the dennys on duval and goverment i belive. i'm thinkin cool this is how he preps for a day out crunchin through the waves. then we went to the race, i saw like 5 race hulls running that are nowhere near anything he currently has on the market. okay, how can he drive 5 boats? next as we were leaving he's on top of the race headquarters trailer w/mic thanking everyone for coming, (poor turnout that year, everybody went to ala.} then on the way home south of islamarada midway across the long bridge i spot a helo zigzaging then make out a boat, this thing is running a mile or so on eather side of the bridge turning about about 4 times before i got to where i could see it was one of his about 38' canopied i/o w/2 6"s about a 6'" apart. the dudes got it goin so bad it would do you harm. he is the sport these days. Kiekafer picked him. he was Knighted. you should only hope to accomplish what he has. i like him. i think i could do it better, but i like him. fun out

For one, to bring this thread back to the subject. Second, I am with you Osprey, I have set it as a goal to beat that record too. I am in the process and have done most of it, but need a few more parts for it all to be accomplished. Approaching 90MPH with a big fishing offshore boat is an accomplishment but not neccesarily a world record that can't be beat. With the marketing power of sites like this it will not be hard to spread the news that a 20 year old CC actually beat his record with 20 year old motors. I am hoping that my project will bring business to the people that has helped me out and also fuel the interest of OB powered CC's as something else than just a fishing barge.

I have been shopping for a big Power boat for about 3 mos. I have come to realize that the target market for Fountain, Cigarette, Donzi Ect., Ect. is not the Speed or Race enthusiast but for people like myself who want to go fast and really do not know enough too make an educated decision. The boats are for the guy who has a few bucks to kick around and sezz what toy do I want next.
Believe me guy's that is the sales pitch, it is the same on all of them. These boats are the Elite ( dollar wise ) But when you get in them and go for the test rides no of these mfgs. are letting it all hang out. Nortec is the only Mfg. that took me out and really let it go. The only problem it is like moving a 245 Cat on a low buoy trailer. The boat is a Masterpiece but what you pull it around with better be to . I will tell you this, how these guys are powering these boats to reach speeds of 100 to 125 you need a pit crew to keep em runnin and deep pockets as well. If you go stock there no great shake. They look Pretty but YOU WILL BE LOOKIN AT ALOT OF ROOSTER TAILS. These boats cost any where from 250 to 400 thousand dollars (and then some ) and you are really not lightin the world on fire!! with stock power. When I say Stock power I am talking about Warrentied motors and drives that are limited at best. The big stuff, the warrenty ends at the showroom door.
So what do you do stay small and learn or go bigger and hope you don't learn the hardway:) :)

in my $150k plus lesson on this subject it comes down to a couple things, your either a vee bottom guy or a cat, then its separates again at beak boats or apache , cigs etc.. you can build the stoutest, bad azz big block that are pretty reliable and make big power but unless you step up to number #6's drives your gonna break, and often ! and at $60 k a piece for a #6 times 2, that the over the top and unreasonable limit for me.. but dang there fun while they last

Tunnels and Cats
I started with a 21' Liberator which anyone can drive at 95 to 100. the problem for me is I became over confident and at 50 broke it up. I don't know about you guy's but I devoloped a false sense of security only because the boat was so easy to drive. I moved to a Venom and found that I had to give the driving my full attention. Do I like it better probally not. I just do not want to loose consentration ever again. I found with the padded bottom and Vee's you have to give driving your full attention at least it is that way for me!!
I am not replacing the Venom if I was I would buy another Liberator, I enjoyed that much.
My new boat is for the Ocean in Florida and I will go V bottom it just takes alot of Bark to make em Bite. the motors don't scare me at all!! it's those drives those 4's and 6's are tough on the wallet if you get jammed up. Lets face it , for me this is a hobbie. I ll find the right combo it will probally be settling at 80 plus and some bravo's the 100 to 110 plus those 4's and 6's and alot of headaches:)

Go to the Miami show and go see the boys at Contender. Carl Kiekhaefer was long gone from Mercury and had started Kiekhaefer Aeromarine when GARY GARBRECHT added Reggie to the Mercury racing team.

By the way Fountain and Garbrecht were the original partners in EXECUTIONER Powerboats, which later became Fountain.

somehow ended up talking to Peter... he gives mom history lesson of my boat from discription given to him from mom ( looking @ pic) so he knows what color shirt....Peter asks what size would he need ????? mom tells him and gives him the shipping address then asks how much ( love mom ) Peter says don't worry about it!! and ships it to her....from what mom says she talked to him for almost a half hour and all she could say is what a nice guy he sounded like........I then showed her pics of his newer stuff and the prices she was even more impressed and still cann't figure out why he spent the time to talk to her istead of passing her off to the secutary????????

Very Very simple thats Peter. He loves what he does and is hands on. If you meet him you would never think he is a multi millinaire. Whether you spend 1M+ or $150 part he will treat you the same. Not to get into detail you would be very surprise how many boat Co's call on him all the time. The first time I went to Skater he took me to lunch at his local shop like he knew me for years. If you ever get a chance to see his operation you will be very impressed I'm sure.
