Looking to get a NIKON AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED Lens for my NIKON D-40X. Where are you guys getting the best price on these lens? I have bought from and had good luck at Cameta Camera in N.Y. but thought I would look around for the best price possible. Not looking for the cheapest price but I am looking for the best price from a reputable dealer.

Also willing to buy used if you have one in mint condition for sale at a good price.:D Hint Hint:D

Thanks Greg. I see those AF lenses aren't cheap.

Some are inexpensive, but not the pro lenses. The 70-200 runs about $1700 or so.

I assume your using the pro lenses with the quality of pics your posting. Or is there really that much difference? I put that site on favorites for when get some extra cash. :D

Thanks Troy

Troy,

Yes, I only use pro gear, but consumer lenses can produce very similar results in the hands of an accomplished photographer. There's a lot more to getting good shots than just the equipment used :)

great lens at a pro price. just remember vr doesnt help with moving objects, just the static ones [in low lite]. im to the point of not considering vr lens for that issue. you can use the money saved to buy a high powered flash and get sharp pictures.

Hey Greg, I know you've covered this before but I'm gonna ask anyways:D :D

Besides VR, what are the main differences between the 80-200 & 70-200?

AF-S autofocus, better tripod mount, newer auto/manual selector design, lack of aperture ring, and all of the VR functions of course; also the hood is included with the 70-200 VR, which is a few ounces heavier than the trusty 80-200, by the way.

Main difference is that the 70-200 is an AF-S lens (ultrasonic internal motor), whereas the 80-200 is an AF lens (uses camera focus drive motor). The 70-200 edges the 80-200 slightly in image quality, although nobody would ever notice the difference.
