It is a 1987 200 2.5 offshore outboard motor .Hve no idea of hours but has low water picup. If I was to spen money on repower what should I go with optimax or verado? or bridgeport? Want this boat to do 90+or so..
11k towards motor.Or should i beef up this old 200? can I get it up to 260hp?

Just guessing......but I'm thinking that you are going to need a stout 260 or 300X to get that thing to run mid 90's.
If you are set on 90's, a different hull would get you their much cheaper. I'm sure you could have your 200 redone, maybe have a few mods done to it, and run in the 80's pretty easy.

I'm not really sure....maybe it is.
I would think that the Vegas V or XT hull would be faster. My Vegas sure looks lighter and more aerodynamic than the Venus hull.....but I could be wrong.

According to the Hydrostream Registry, there is an article under the Venus stats that says it is the fastest hull...something to due with the aerodynamics....

i bet that boat would pick up a few mph by taking off that rail in frt of the windscreen. at high speeds everything has some drag. good luck.

I have a 1987 Hydrostream Venus with the XT bottom. A good strong Mercury 260 EFI will push the XT bottom easily in the low 90's. Get yourself a good 260 and brace the transom properly and enjoy the boat!

From what I've read in other posts....you're better off buying a 260 power head as opposed to trying to get an extra 60hp out of your 200.
You will save money, and have a more reliable engine if you buy a 260.

a gentleman in canada with a new XT bottom (from Hydrostream canada, John Spaeth) runs something like 96 with a 225 promax I believe... Im pretty sure they can be had for a reasonable amount of money, a bridgeport would most certainly get you there as well and be economical...
