Started painting Osprey's 25 Talon

Here's some pics of Lee's 25 Talon "Fishboat" I filled all the railing and cleat holes on top and did a few repairs. Gotta get rid of the nasty babycrap yellow.

I started the paint today. Here, I painted the orange base, then the orange Tangelo pearl. After that, I blended in a yellow pearl on the top rounded corners. It is'nt cleared yet. Tommorrow, I'll highlight the vents and grooves and do a ghost pearl "TALON" logo. Then I'll clearcoat it all and start the other side. The boat was too tall to get inside, and to much area to paint both sides at once.

No bugs. There's not many bugs during the day at my shop. We've had a few 40 degree nights lately too. Not a single bug, run, or piece of dirt so far. Not even any dust. I only would paint if conditions are perfect. I let it sit all last week due to wind. Painting big boats sucks.
I do have my rigging room, which is 20' X 44', but it only has an 8ft tall door. It's heated and air conditioned. I painted the 30 Liberator in there, but had to tape all the floors up. I try to keep it real clean.
Here's the photoshop pic of Lee's boat. He does'nt want the TALON in black though, so it will be a "ghosted" shade of yellow pearl. I may add some darker orange pearl to it also.

so the interior will stay largely the white gelcoat? Will the center console get anything cool done to it, or any color at all? Any marblizing on the dash or anything like the 30 Lib? Its gonna look awesome, cant wait to see the ghosted Talon logo!:cool:

The boat is Tangelo. The gold accents are Sunrise pearl, and the darker orange on the top half of "TALON" is Ultra orange.

Duraglas with a light coat of a softer filler on top so you can block it out works well. I used Evercoat filler. It's white and VERY hard. Be sure to grind a bevel around all your holes so they don't show back through.

I just got back from Florida and got a chance to stop by and see the boat and all I can say is HOTDAMN!! The Bling-machine is back!!! I couldn't be more pleased with the colors and Randy's work. He must do something right because my wife even likes it!! I'm actually glad that it wasn't ready, the traffic on I-95 was the worst I have ever seen. It wouldn't have been any fun towing today....plus it gives me a reason to head back down for a warm weekend!

As far as where the paint meets up with the upholstery, do you run a tape line down the edge of the upholstery, or take out the upholstery? Which do you recommend?

Lee's boat had a tape line by the top edge. If you paint up to the upholstery, I'd definitely take it out.

That was the basecoat which is'nt too bad. There was a steady breeze coming from the front of the boat. I always wear a mask when spraying clearcoat, or any paint with a catalyst.

Beautiful work Randy. It was hard for me to picture what you and Lee had in mind, but , you did the hull justice. If talon was to build one today I think this paint scheme would be at the top of there list,if they could come up with something this creative. The ghosted talon lettering rocks!!!! i am building a 2.7 omc. sumbitch is as big as my xxxistxxxerixxxxn xxxlaw, :rolleyes: what. thinkin on painting it "corvette" yellow. bad move? johnson had alot of color schemes the worked with. i still like it. fun out
