Anybody on the board from GA area? What is the current rules with EPA and outboards on that lake? I have old school V8's with absolutely no stars, am I good to go? As you can see, I am living in Vegas, but will move to ATL shortly and just wondered if this lake is as cool as our lakes around here (and different from CA..)

There are no regulations on outboards that I know of. A friend of mine has an old 135 hp Merc. that he runs right past the D N R .smoking like crazy
There is plenty of water in the lake but only 2 public ramps open.
we were on the lake last week from one end to the other, no problem, and we were going 97 mph

Thank you so much for that info, just what I wanted to hear. With only two public ramps, how is the lines there? Are there any non public ramps that will charge you but able you to bypass any lines? Any idea what they charge for dry storage there? I found the marinas website but no pricing, and that is normally bad news...

A lot of docks are are sitting on the ground and people had to pull their boats out and dry store them. Dry storage is hard to find It's winter here and only die hard fishermen or women are out so the two open ramps (shoal creek, and tidwell) are not that crowded. The marinas have the only private ramps open ,and and I have a house boat at one, and they give me a hard time at my own marina making sure I am who I am. It will rain soon and in spring there will be no problems with ramps

Come visit my lake when you get to Atlanta, I'm on lake Wedowee which is just across the Georgia line in Alabama. Depending on where you live in Atlanta it may even be closer than Lanier. We are only an hour west. It's a beautiful lake and you won't get any hassles. The water cop is a personal friend of mine and a great guy.

That sounds good, but the boat I currently have is not what most people will think of as a lake boat. It is 34' long plus the bracket and three OMC V8's behind that again. Awesome for a fishing trip, but you gotta be kinda of a die hard, like me, to use it on lakes. It is what I got and I am sticking to it! :D Out here in the west it is not a problem as we have much bigger boats than mine and nobody really cares. I am not familiar with the ATL area at all but just landed a job there and will move there shortly. More than likely we will settle around the Alpharetta area. The last house I looked at was only 14 minutes from the marina on Lanier. I will ofcourse tow it to the ocean to do my fair share of deep sea fishing as well, but a few trips to the lake for a week-end or long mid week trip will definantely happend. So any lake where a boat that size is welcome, and the drive to it is not too long, will more than likely get a visit.

Check it out It is only a 2 br 2 ba but it has a killer steam room and a place to park your boat on the lower side, you would have to pour some concrete No covenant subdivision cheap If the link didn't work fmls# 3548559

Hey Kimswang, Your 30' would be fine on this lake. I got a 30" Challenger and a triple digit Mirage. Best of both worlds, long and fast. When you get out this way look me up and plan a trip over here one weekend, You'll be surprised.

Lanier is a great lake when the water is at or near full pool. Alot of big boats. Your 30ft'r won't even turn a head. More inboards than outboards but they are here. We run offshore exhaust outboards and have never been approached. The only thing you have to watch for is drinking, they are pretty tight on that. Moderation is the key. Look all of us up when you get here.

Looked at it and found it slightly smaller than what we are looking for. A must for me is a big garage that I can turn in to a shop as well as a big office inside. Wifey want one of them huge master bedrooms with this and that... Thanks though.

When do you think it will fill back up? My 34' Scarab SS plus bracket and engines makes it 40' total lenght, and with three old school V8's two strokes smokers - it turn heads wherever it is...:D Drinking is a big issue here as well, and I have very simple rules.
1. Anchor down
2. Beer open
3. Stay there until the next day
Can't really go wrong that way.

The corp says it will be up 12' by spring, that will still be down 10', but we only hit 4' down from full pool last year there is still over 100' of water in the lake and plenty of room to stretch out your scarab, There is a 68' house boat on the lake with triple 454 inboards, lots of cigarette boats, even some 85' Blue water yachts and double decker 21.5' by 118' house boats I have a 20'6" closed bow with the new 300 xs merc 3.2L stroker
we had it on the lake last week at 97 mph, no water problem

I live on the west side of town in Douglasville.I am an hour from Lanier Allatoona and Wedowwee?.I have a 4 /2.5 for sale in a subdivision. It is about an acre with the whole back fenced in.A 3 Car garage and a giant shop in the basement with a boat door. The basement is also partially finished which I used as a big office.Just dropped 20k in renovations.I am renting but would love to sell.Asking 255K.Let me know if you are interested.Depending on were your job is,you defenitely get more bang for the buck in Dville then Alpharetta.I have a 30 Shadowcat with twin 300s and I do Lanier and Alatoona on a regular basis.I also made a huge gate to open up and put my boat in the back behind the fence. The house is vacant now and renovations should be done the first week in Jan.
