View Full Version : Michigan area: Patrol boats needed for Silver Cup race
If you want to be 'in' on the action at the Silver Cup Series APBA Offshore races on June 21-22-23 at Harrison Twp., Michigan, they are asking for any boat owners who want to volunteer and be "Patrol Boats" to help keep the race course clear.
It's a great way to meet some nice folks and get up close to view the racing from your own boat.

same weekend for the river roar in Bay City. Tempting, but no. Something about standing at the start dock with a cold brewski in hand and then WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost need "Depends"!:D
Wow, I didn't even notice that!
Well, I'll certainly be at Bay City this year. I had to miss Laughlin, and that was a bummer.
It's been a long winter -- Can't wait to see tunnel boats again!

Up here. Water temps in the lakes are waaay below normal yet. Got a nice sunburn over the weekend, aannd you always know summer is here when you run over a frickin deer, blow both airbags at 75 mph on I-75 and cause $5,000 damage to your truck. I now have a new hobby this fall, Deer exterminator. Bay City is always a great race. Was it Bowden and Seebold went deck to deck for quite a few laps togther. Man, they were a bumpin and banging and pushing on each other. I think that was four years ago or so. Look out for a Long-hair with a big ol' Black Lab (if it's not too hot) Won't be too far from a Blue/Silver hst either. Just don't touch the water! That river is a damn sewer from all the towns that dump into it. E-coli warnings are always goin on during the summer.Up here in Saginaw I've seen them shut down the boat launches and parks along the river for just such reasons. Too bad.But anyway It's a big 'ol party and I love it. :)

:D I'll be racin' a Super Light Tunnel Boat in the Inflatable class. Should be a great weekend, hope to see some of you there. Look us up in the pits my boat is 1US as I won the Nationals last year at the Topinabee Marathon. Gotta love those big motors though they sure sound sweet on a 'real' tunnel boat:rolleyes: Bill Jolley

I did that down here in St. Pete last year at the nationals. I don't know that I'd want to do it again. I guess it depends on how desperate I am to get on the water.
Keeping the people from crowding the course is hard. There is always a handful of A-holes that think rules are for sissies and they have to break them.
To make it worse, they say don't fight them, just call in for support (on the VHF) we'll bring the law out to that part of the course. So I do all I can and finally call the law out on these particular A-holes. What does the law do? Nothing! So now the A-holes know you're there for nothing.
You don't see near as much of the race as if you were a spectator and blow a good tank of gas just idling around. But I guess somebody has to do it.
