I'm looking for more info about X-stream boats out of Canada. I recently bought a 96 Vegas. I thought when I bought the boat that it was a hyrosteam because of the style and the emblems on the side but it turns out not to be after reading on Hydrostream's web page that they stoped making boats in 91 and that Xstream boats were being made illegally. So now I'm wondering if my boat is worth anything being that its not a hydro. I'm also wondering how well constructed are X-stream boats? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome :)
When Greg sees this I'm sure he'll be able to give you a ton of info - he has one himself, in pristine garage-kept shape. :D
I'll see if I can find a pic for you...

I am sure Greg will fill in all of the blanks for you on this subject, but I would not be concerned of the qaulity or performance of your boat. As far as the legal side goes, I have heard some from both sides, but again has very little to do with the boat you have. I have seen some rather subtle differences in the way mine was built vs. Canadian, but it wouldn't be enough to concern me. Visit the International HydroStream Registry web site (hydrostream.org) and read about the history. It is very interesting. They are not linked directly to HydroStream in TN nor are they connected to Hydrostream of Canada, so the info is pretty unbiased. The first three letters of your HIN will say who built your boat. Post as much of the HIN as you are comfortable with and more info will flow. Good luck!:)

Funny that Hydrostream US, who were part of X Stream, would claim the boats were made illegally.
The story on www.hydrostream.org is correct. To be a little more clear, the US and Canadian rights to the Hydrostream name are separately owned.

i have some issues with some of their [xstream] quality. ribs not centered in their hull grooves, no glass on the inside of the center rib structure, damming of the drain at the ski locker, and the distruction of the center rib to put the ski locker in. thats the bad. the good is it seam to be liter than the HS counterparts. they drive and fly lighter. i have both a HS and XS voyager. as for resale there should be no difference. just check for rot and moisture, but you need to do that for all hs or xs boats.

Thanks for all the info. Like I said I am new to the Hydrostream family so I'm eager to learn about them and how to set mine up to FLY. I do have the first couple of Letters from the vin. They are ILZA. So if that helps anyone give me more info about my boat that will be appreciated. I don't have any pics to post because I didn't get a chance to take any before I put it away for the winter but as soon as I get it out I will post.
I allready know that I need to replace the floor so that will be my first project.

I'm not sure if you got those numbers off the actual boat or not, but the search comes up that it is a Illinois Homade Boats. Maybe there was a lost title at some point?

I probably just stuck my foot in my mouth, the MIC or Manufacturer Identification Code is required by the US Coast Guard. So the rules may have been different for a Canadian manufactured boat.

I just checked another site and it states that any boat manufactured or imported into Canada after 1981 must also have this MIC, so it is not just the US. I am curious if this actually came off of the boat or your paperwork for the boat.
Canadian boats have HIN too, X-Stream was built by Jim Tucker under a company called Jet Design.
Jim Conzen was involved, is website is BS.....hell he was part of it. Typical of him.

Checked for Jet Design on the MIC Data base, no results came back for that one either.

I pulled those VIN numbers off of my paper work. Maybe some thing is screwed up on my paper work because I'm looking at it right now and it is saying that it's a 96 Hydrostream. I will have to go get the Vin # off of the tag on the boat this weekend to see if this is right.

Did some more searching, found an advertisement for X-Stream in 1994 and an advertisement for Hydrostream in Tracy California in 1997. You said that you had an X-Stream boat but the title says Hydrostream? Somethings not adding up. I did find out that the HIN from X-Stream started with ZJI. I hope this helps:D
