Sort of ties in with the movie line thread. With all the musicians out there there must be a ton of favorites. I'm no musician and couldn't carry a tune in a bucket if my life depended on it, but I like good music.
Songs bring back memories for me. You always seen to remember a tune, what you were doing and who you were with.

"I'm a joker, a smoker, a midnight toker" The Joker, Steve Miller Band

"Southern Man, better keep your head, don't forget what your good book said." Southern Man, Neil Young

"I striped away the old debris that hides a shiny car" Red Barchetta, Rush

"A 75 Johnson with electric choke" Drive, Alan Jackson

For the Merc guys. (My ripoffs)

I see a line of motors and they're all painted black.

I'm gonna buy me a Mercury , I'm crusin' up and down the lake.

I probably have a ton more, but can't recall them now. I'll have to think.
Give us your favorites, or memorable tunes.

Let's change it up a bit. I'll throw out some lyrics, you name the song and band.
We'll start easy, but they will get harder! :D

Round 1:

1. "I've been looking at the sky
'Cause it's gettin' me high
Forget the hearse 'cause I never die"

2. "You say I'm never gonna break ya
But we won't know until we try
So now's the time to make up your mind
I'll never ever be the one woman kind"

3. "Under the sheets you will find me
I know that nothin's for free
You take what's good for your pleasin'
I'll take what's good for this crazy evening"

4. "Living in a fisheye lens,
Caught in the camera eye.
I have no heart to lie,
I can't pretend a stranger
Is a long-awaited friend"

5. "I been to the edge, an' there I stood an' looked down
You know I lost a lot of friends there baby, I got no time to mess around"

Show me whatcha got! :D

OK these should be considerably easier. (says the guy with the answers:D )

1. I can't deny it
With that smile on her face
It's not the kill
It's the thrill of the chase

2. From up above it's hard to see but you know when you're there.
On the bottom words are shallow.
On the surface talk is cheap.
You can only judge the distance by the company you keep

3. Too many slaves in this world die by torture and pain.
Too many people do not see. They`re killing themselves, going insane.
Too many people do not know bondage is over the human race.
They believe slaves always lose, and this fear keeps them down.

4. You take my life but I take yours too
You fire your musket but I run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand there's no turning back

5. Did you have any bad dreams, did you break any glass
Would you be my companion, is there even a chance
You been talking in circles, since I been able to cry
There's never been any reason for never telling me why

Damage Inc
06-06-2002, 03:43 PM
I'm not very good at this. I do much better when I can hear the music. Numbers 2 and 5 are familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. Number 3, I don't have a clue.

1. "Knockin' at your back door" - Deep Purple

4. "Trooper" - Iron Maiden

Sorry.

Here's a few new ones for you:

1. "This is not about race
It's a decision to stop the division in your life
This is not about sex
We all know sex sells and the whole world is buying"

2. "I feel betrayed
Stuck in your ways
And you rip me apart
With the brutal things you say
I can't deal with **** anymore
I just look away "

3. "I gave it everything, but you threw it all away
I can't take anymore of these games that you play
I've been through heartache, and I've been through pain
And it's hard to believe you still treat me this way"

4. "I search the world
For someone I'll never find
Someone who ain't
The hurtin' kind
If you stay the night
We'll make the wrong seem right"

5. "You get your sunshine from a tab of paper
Then you're sitting in a spinning room
The clock is tocking and it's laughing at you
your life's a mystery without a clue"

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you my #3 from a few back.

Sometimes when you're reading the lyrics, the song pops into your head. It's really bad when only a fragment of the song pops up, and you rack your vbrain trying to remember enough of it to identify it. THEN you're stuck with that song in your head for days. Yup ya got me. I'm behind the curve on new music. Mainly because it's taken some time for some really good stuff to surface. Creed is good stuff. I'm a big Offspring fan. The last Staind album had some high points. Nickelback absoutely rocks!!! There's is the first album I've bought since "Shake Your Money Maker" by the Black Crowes that I can listen to all the way through at any given time.

Creed rocks! I also like Nickleback, really good band! It's unfortunate that the bands lately have been 1-2 album wonders with MAYBE 2 good songs on any one album.

No, you didn't miss anything. I used to manage a record store as well as play in a band in Dallas in the mid to late 80's. I had the opportunity to meet alot of bands. Just to name a few:

Bullet Boys
Warrant
Slaughter
Faster Pussycat
Queensryche
Extreme
and of course Pantera. They were big in Dallas at the time I was playing.

Had alot of fun and got to meet and hang out with some very cool people. Brings back some wild memories!! :D

I just can't get into all this detuned crap. Drop D is one thing, and it sure makes power chords easy:D But tuning way down and using Cable remnants from the Golden Gate bridge to string a guitar with is just nonsensical to me. I used to do some engineering work in a small studio and one of the things they pounded into my head was that everything has it's own frequency range. Once you start messing with these bottom dwelling guitars, it muddies up everything from about 3 or 400 cycles down. It's an EQing nightmare, you can't clean it up without affecting the bass guitar. Then there's the talent issue. (Rant off, sorry);)

Ya know what else I miss? Solos! I'm not asking for Satch/Malmsteen shredfests, just a few bars of good ol' fashioned string bending and pentatonic scale walking.:D

I did DJ work for quite a few years. Mid 80's to like 90 or 91. Had my own mobile rig for awhile. Gave it up and kept the PA, had a killer home setup til I sold the PA. It was all Peavey, 600WX2 into two full range cabinets. Got everyone's attention when I wanted to.:D

My favorite lyrics:

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true....
May you always do for others...
and let others do for you.

May you build a ladder to the stars...
and climb on every rung....
And may you stay...........Forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you

May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay .......Forever young

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift...
May you have a strong foundation
when the winds of changes shift.

May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung...
And may you stay...........Forever Young.

What song is this:
"Quick to Judge...Quick to Anger...Slow to Understand...
Ignorance and Prejudice and You walk Hand in Hand"

How about this easy one:
"Everybody's Funny...now your Funny too"

OR: "If you want to run Cool, you got to run on Heavy Heavy Fuel..."

Maybe:
"Take a look at my Girlfriend, she's the only one I got....Not much of a Girlfriend, never seem to get a lot..."

How about:
"...I'd buy you a fur coat -- but not a real fur coat, that's cruel"

And:
"...tongue-tied and twisted; just an earthbound misfit"

And:
"come mothers and fathers throughout the land - don't criticize what you don't understand. Your son's and your daughter's are beyond your command. The old road is rapidly aging...please get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand"

And:
"It was a Texas girl that broke my heart, then she tore my truck apart...I guess I'll get me another in Baton Rouge. I like Crawfish I like rice. I like girls that treat you nice - I'm gonna find me one in Baton Rouge"

And, from the same album:
"I'm gonna build me a boat with these two hands. It'll be a fair curve from a noble plan..... let the chips fall where they will ...cause I've got boats to build"

And my all-time favorite (after Forever Young)
"A blind bird sings inside the cage that is my heart. And the image of your face comes to me when I'm alone in the dark........If I could give a shape to this ache that I have for you.....If I could find the voice that says the words that capture you....
I think I know why the dog howls at the moon."
