I have a 20' ultra w/ 86 200GT evinrude. The motor is getting a little long in the tooth and I am looking to upgrade to newer power (preferably EFI) Most of the motors I find are Mercurys or Yamahas. I already have analog gauges and kind of a generic side shifter w/built in trim. The key switch is dash mounted.
My question is, what year motors can I look for that will require the least amount of re-rigging? I am looking for 200HP and very turn key power w/ oil injection if possible. My boat runs about 65 w/ 25P shooter prop and I'm happy with that. Just tired of miscelanious problems cutting into hard to get free time.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated

try a 1992-1999 200 efi. there's a lot out there and its been a very reliable motor. the shifter if geranic should be able to switch between omc and merc. the switch needs to be replaced with am merc system. you can open the merc shifting case and remove all but the netrual safty switch and mount it in the dash [or buy the dash mount switch and cable. steering will need a merc dual conversion kit [omc had a different mounting system and may not work]. you'lll also need new cables, whick is a good idea even if you go back to omc.
