RUMOR IS XS with them using the same 3.2 block as the 300 , just take a look back in the hour glass at mercs past ten years. the 300 and the x basically are the same internally minus the fuel system and oiling ,computer . once you take one of each apart you 'llknow what i'm talking about .so why would they go through so much money and time to reinvent the wheel with the 3.2 and then just **** can it and go to a 3.8 (unless they can get that .6 liter from the 3.2 ) just my .02 take it for what it is ! believe me i would love for it be a xs . They will be 350 verado's from Mercury racing from what I hear.

expect to see them in Miami atleast as a prototype.
I know they have been testing them on a couple of boats for about a year now

A friend of mine was speaking with Fountain, and they mentioned trip 350 verado's on a 38'., maybe in Miami

I wish they would take the opti further, I'd take 4 if they can make a gearcase to hold up for 375 hp

Well whatever it is.. it's going to be above 300 hp with either DFI or 4SDISC technology and below 400 hp. V-6cyl. or I-8.

bigger hp and more weight every year.how about a light weight 2.5 280hp plus opti.

2 Turbos? Really? Huh..What does everyone guess the weight will be? I say close or par with the behemoth 350 Yamaha. It'd be such a suprise if it reversed itself by declining in weight other than increasing. But my guess for the 8-Can-er is 750-835lbs.

A friend of my fathers works for Mercury and says they are putting up to 500hp into the 350hp verado shells without any problems, to see the 350hp Verado follow the links below:

forgive me if I have missed anything, I haven't been on here for a while, but has anyone seen a 350 verado in person, other than a boat show(its easy to put 350 stickers on a 300). I noticed the fountains at Miami only had 300's on them. Merc has been advertising the 350 since last year, but I haven't seen one anywhere. I may be wrong, but if this is anything like the Merc/Cummins/ZF Zues fiasco, we'll be lucky to see one in production any time soon. Its got me interested to ponder if thay require 93 octace on the early 275 Verados, then back them down to 89, the 300's require at least 91, what are they running the 350 on? I see they spec 91, but something has to give. Maybee those numbers with Cam 2? I just have my fill with marketing bs. At just under 160 cubic inches, thats over 2 hp per cube. People win major auto races with that kind of performace

Well you'll have to enlighten us non informed folks then. I Imagine demand is through the roof and they are findin transoms as fast as they roll off the assembly line, but it's not like they are the run of the mill Merc or etec fishin motors. Personally I doubt I'll ever own a boat that needs one of those things, much less 3-4 of them

I took a 36 invinsible with triple 350's at the miami boat show and that was a bad a$$ ride. With the guages hooked up to the GPS it did 82mph. The boat got right up on plain and the mid range to high range really threw you back.

 Why would they make a 4 liter twin turbo verado when they can just increase the boost on the one they have now and get a easy 450 hp. The lower unit is the problem they havent made any more power with them.

thats just it, I don't think they are making an easy 350, let alone 450. If they are making 350, they are working very hard for it. Like i posted before, they are over 2 hp per cube, they are getting into Formula 1 engine territory

When I was at the Miami boat show on of the big dog salesman I was talking to told me they can and have boosted the Verado power head to 450+ hp. The reason they havent produced any is because of the lower unit and mid section will not handle it.

they arent even close to approaching Formula 1 HP to CID ratios yet... there are stock automobiles out these days with long warranties that exceed the cid to HP ratio that the verado is... shelby cobra with the ford motorsports 750 kit... is 2.3 HP per CID and carried a 36K mile warranty... the GT40 can easilly exceed 1000 hp with stock fuel system and factory shortblock.. out of a 330 CID engine... for over 3HP per CID... there are other combos out there as well... 700 RWHP 2.5L Evo's.... they arent even into race fuels teritory yet..... they could build a verado to require 112 and then even 700-800 would be totally possible and totally safe in terms of octain requirements,..... but good luck keeping a lower alive..

yeah, but how many of those motors run at a constant 80% throttle at cruise? Under a full load? You're looking at maybe a 2 or 3% duty cycle engine at WOT in thsoe applications. And as far as the lower units being the limiting factor, there's plenty of room in a Bravo lower for shifting hardware, the hp Bravo lowers can handle any thing a clamp on can put out. With the given rpm range and gear ratio, a sport master should be able to handle the Vrod.

The 350 is using straight cut gears, which are the strongest. That tells me the gearcase is limited.

It is an opti, has the Verado 350sci gearcase.

Try hole-shoting and barking the prop on a Bravo with over 400hp and see just how long they last. How much more HP over 350 would it take to offset the drag of a larger lower unit and then it breaks because it isnt big enough. You reach a point of dimishing returns and my guess is we are pretty much there. This is probably why the quad 350SCI 38 Fountain has not lived up to its hype. Bigger lowers and extra weight killed it. It only 2mph faster at best than the same boat with trip 350SCI's.
