View Full Version : How do you speed freaks use trim and jack plates?

So, let's say you have found the perfect combination of engine height and trim for maximum top speed. How often do you mess with it? I'm assuming from the pictures I've seen of foot and steering column trim switches, that trim is adjusted frequently. What about jack plate height for those of you with hydraulic plates? Do you lower it a bit for general use? Thanks for helping with my de-dumbification.
Get a set of the Teleflex dual stem-style trim switches that mount to the helm. These will be like turn signals, and will work with any steering system, cable or hydraulic. Trim on one side, jack on the other.
My power jackplate isn't working correctly right now, but I've got it manaully set where I use it most of the time anyway. I can't imagine needing to change it unless I wanted to pull a skier, but some boats are more sensitive to height with varying passenger loads.

depends on the boat for the jack plate, some need adjustment to plane and get the LU in the right spot while running. others like the STV are pretty good where they are and do not need verrtical adjustment of the height much if at all. Trim is another story, most adjust frequently.

Most boats need to adjust height for prop change, water wave condition and boat load. Same with trim.
