Dave Bush's Pro Gas motor is a work of art and it shows what the word PRO
means. Dave got DNQ because the fuel truck was not there there and another racer was nice enough to give him some gas to test. Dave's problem was he had foam in the tank and paper filters and retained the oil and fuel from the test fuel. I would like to say if they make an additive that makes a outboard run like that they should have it on the market. Their was only a few Pro motor there most everybody was running modified production from
lake race to unlimited. When you have a chance to do anything you want in a class and you only run stock part and someone shows up with a motor that is out side the box and wins, I think it should if you have worked on the motor as hard as he has. There many fine boat there and I always enjoy Jasper this is one year when the word PRO-GAS & PRO FUEL were won by a PRO motor program that was by far faster because of hard work. There are new cranks for the 3 liter Mercury and big bore pistons that would make a Mercury 3.7 so the door is open for Mercury to step up. We test a 300x 5year ago and it turned 9200 rpms with a 1.75 gear and a 26 pitch prop with 150 lbs of compression on pump gas on Trd-20. Thats not bad but no one has move up to the bigger motor WHY?????????????????????
I have always like more than one motor at the races it make it a lot more fun
the rag the competition and out do them.
I hope there is a move to step up and make Jasper and Drag racing even more fun!
Thanks ODBA for all the HARD work that it take to do what you do!!!!!!!!!

It's great to see:
A. a guy figure it out and do it himself
B. some diveristy in motor combinations
C. the performance climb to a level (IN ALL CLASSES) that I've not seen before.
Wish I could have been there, sounds like one of the best turn outs of hi caliber, fast boats of all time in O/B drag racing.
Congrats to all the winners and to all that spent the money, time and effort to compete with the big boys!

It was a real eye opener for me. Very few cookie cutter rigs, lots of trick home made stuff and lots of idea-generating conversations. I had a great time. Nice to meet you Wayne!

For those that dont know Daves rig was stolen from in front of his hotel last night while stopping to rest in New Mexico, the trailer and boat were found this morning a few miles away but no sign of the truck yet. Its a silver Ford crew cab with Az plates.

3.7 Merc..........yes, one with a 12" mid is going on a new blue XR2001.
BTW, everyone knows Bush was cool on fuel. He had foam in his tank and had been running other than the spec fuel testing the day before. Bad idea. Most do not realize that ODBA's fuel test is very sensitive. Bush isnt the only one with a long face. Several others got it, probably all for the same reason.

Was the boat/motor and trailer unmolested? Hopefully nothing was done to the badest Jonnie around and this coming from a devout Merc fan.
I hope we see that rig on the ROPES next year.

thank baby jesus that the boat was found. Id bet big money that he has some serious man hours in that beast.
I'd like to know if the committee that dq'd bush were his opponents or not?
was he told immediately about the problem?

When I talked with Dave he had not yet been able to check the boat and trailer but he said it looked untouched.

Yes, and no. But being opponents makes no difference to the meter.
I hope his rig is OK. I hate to see crap like that happen.

Not specifially. I don't know who runs the fuel tech for ODBA now but I do know that ususally one or maybe 2 people(usually a racer trained on how to perform the testing) do that actual testing and they do not know who's fuel they are testing at any given time. They get a numbered fuel sample, and $2000 - $3000 worth of test equipment. it a tough job but it's a necessary job and it's not much fun.

Well, all I know is that the three guys who told me were all Pro Gas racers. And I found out about 30 hours after the race. Bruce told me he checked it, then had it checked again.

No Lee, they told me well after all the racing was done on Sunday. Pro Carb was the first race on Saturday.
