Finished inside, waiting for last layer to cure. Will knock off high spots and prime with self-etching primer and spraying with gray enamel inside rear hatch. Made a replacement "splashless well" to replace my old splashwell. Go see pics and let me know what you think. Has 4 layers of 3/4" plywood for rear, 2 wide ones, then knees, then 2 more inside the knees. Glassed it all in after covering each cutout piece with 1 1/2 oz mat. Put 2 layers of woven roven across knees to stringers, and two layers from knees to transom. Made corner braces by laminating plywood and cutting to shape. Here's the link

Been going extremly well considering the glass. If the weather holds out I will 80 grit and straighten the lines, GUNMETAL GRAY FLAKE here I come!!!!!!!!!!Update Transom 6 (http://briefcase.yahoo.com/superdave37076) I'm very satisfied up to this point. Haven't had much itchin' (jump in the cold pool before you shower), did this 10 times a day! But it may be worth it.

That really looks good.

You said your using self-etching primer and enamel. Are you painting the whole boat? Will there be areas where you'll be painting over gelcoat?

I've never done much with gelcoat and really don't care to. It sounds like your using pretty conventional automotive refinishing techniques. Am I missing anything?

Made a mess.....starting to refinish again. Using enamel inside, metalflake outside. More than a little out of practice with body work LOL

Great job Dave.
I think I'm going to copy your design for the splash well on my Hydra-Sports.
Even after I rebuilt the transom, I've been plagued with stress cracks. Your design should fix that.
I wasn't brave enough to attempt the flake job.

I redid the repair. It looks VERY good this time. Remember guys I'm still learning. I sprayed a quart of clear with acetone & metalflake mixed in it. I went to T & K BOAT REPAIR and talked to Charlie. He sold me the clear, metaflake ( I mixed a little silver metaflake with the gunmetal gray dut to the reat of the boat being faded), styrene wax for $40.00. I then sprayed a quart of clear e\with the styrene wax mixed in. You only use the wax for the last coat. It forms a seal over the top of the celcoat and allows it to harden. I still need to wash the wax off, wet sand & buff. Looks like it's going to match pretty good! I' m happy:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :DTransom pics (http://briefcase.yahoo.com/superdave37076)
