With either a new cable or cables and the parts to convert to Dual RideGuide.

I would probably follow the previous advice and just replace it, but I do know of several people who have successfully lubed theirs with home-made lubing devices that used compressed air to pump tranny fluid, light oil, homemade concoctions, through the cable and out the other end to free them up. I've heard they can end up working better than new. Here's a link to T-REX's luber, but I know others have made one to do it from the helm end rather than the motor end.

many cables for myself and friends. If it's really stuck I would just replace it though. I lube mine every spring now and sometimes once in the middle of the season. Always works like new or even a little better........ The kink of lubers though is Nick Kaye. He built a dual cable luber to do both at one time. I guess if I had as many boats as him I would do the same. he would be out ther a month if he had to do em all one at a time......:D

I think it is better to lube from the helm end but what i did was:
Make a adapter fitting to screw into the grease zert hole (1/4-28UNF). Adapt this out with pipe fittings to make a small chamber and air fitting on the end. Fill with fluid of choice and apply air. I had to put a hose clamp on the end of the steering rod to keep fluid from comming out where the crimp is. You dont have to take any thing apart.

I have had very little luck freeing a stuck cable...the Luber iz for sticking(not stuck) cables and to use for lubricating your exsisting cables to keep them from sticking...Even if U buy new cables, build U a luber and lube ya cables at least once a year...will save U money in the long run...REX:cool:

I would go for a good dual cable setup, I changed my rideglide this year and had a pretty hard time coming up with a cable for it and when i did it was just as cheap as a single cable system, so i just replaced the whole thing. If it is really stuck then I would not chance it a broken cable on a single cable setup could be a nice a$% busting if it breaks.

When it comes to boats keep in mind (There is NO BRAKES). Once they lock up, there is no way to see how much damage is on the inside of the cable even if you get it free. new one dont cost much, buy it and use your cable luber before it gets stuck.GOOD LUCK and rember, the life you save, might be someone who owes me money Nitemaher
