Johnson Venon 225hp

Hi all,

I have a 1997 Venon 225HP and just wondering whats the difference between the standard Johnson 225HP and the Venon 225Hp.... Also does someone have a write up on the motor or any additional information.....

The Venom/Vindicator/H.O has bigger exhaust ports.

Someone posted a port map here a few months ago.

Additional info: Stay out of the mid-range, because the rings may get stuck in the exhaust ports and check the upper bearing bolts since they tend to come loose.

Actually, the difference between the two was the Vindicator/Venom motors had additional fingerports. They dropped the Vindicator/Venom monicker in 1998 I believe? Anyway, they all had it. They didn't make a Vindicator/Venom in addition to a 200/225 standard toward the end there.

I thought the Venom and Vindicator were the same as the H.O. that replaced them and was sold as a Johnson during the last years of OMC.

Further, I thought all 3 l engines had finger ports, not just the Venoms/Vindicator.

All wrong, I guess.

My notes show all 3 liter motors '93 and up are closed deck blocks with finger ports.
My pair of '99 250 Ocean Pros are the same power head as the HO's and mine have approx. 3/8" wider ports than a stock 225 and it has finger ports. (course, the stock 225's have the fingers as well).

Instigator is correct all 3.0 liter and 3.3 liter closed deck motors have fingerports. The venom is higher durometer rubber mounts-essentially sticker engineering. The 225 HO and the 250 blocks are the same, both use the wider exhaust port from the open deck 3.0 liter looper.

Should I interpret what you stated above as the H.O having wider exhaust ports than the Venom/Vindicator?

The only closed deck 3.0 liter loopers built by OMC with the larger exhaust port were the HO and 250. The venom/vindicator has the same port time/areas as every other version. I am not sure what Bombardier Recreation is building yet but I would assume BR will stick with the same specifications through this year.
