Is there any specific way and how long should you run in a brand new Lightening gear box??

I have never broken in a lower unit, (gear box) new from Mercury or one that we rebuilt. Run it like you stole it.

Steckbauer said change gear lube after first 30 minutes, then after 5 hours.

Don't do what I did...Take the mechanic's word (the guy that just rebuilt my lower unit) that it is full of oil. You will melt the driveshaft bearing and break your driveshaft into two pieces after about 20 mins in the water. It needs to be FULL of oil, not 1/2 full.

Dave, I'd take it real easy for the first few hours or so, treat it like you're running in a new motor cos the money you've spent on that case, or cases would make me take my time. Get the best oil you can get and drain it after a couple of hours. How long did the last one last?

Thanks guys.. How are you Simon?? The last box lasted me 12 hrs plus 5 hrs running in and 3 oil changes..
I use the geniune Johnson Evinrude HPF XR Synthetic oil. I plan to run it easy for 2 hrs, change the oil, run it easy for another 2, change the oil once more and hopefully that should do..
I have posted a message on what l am trying to do in parts for sale, lower units,E-Tec 250 HO in low emissions outboard forum!!
Take a look.
