what are the symtoms of a trigger that is going bad or is bad? been have a some electric issues with a 260. motor will start and idle fine for about 5-10 seconds then kill. it will only idle with throttle. the boat will plane and run for about 10 secs then start missing at all rpm ranges. the miss is worse (longer duration of rpm change) if the throttle is let off slightly:confused: please help. for the record, electrics are fairly new, roughly six months old. battery voltage is good and fuel pressure does not change with acceleration.

Don't be too quick to condem the trigger, it could be the stator, or ignition module heating up and failing.

Beg, borrow, or break down and buy a DVA Meter and run a few tests on the components and see which part is failing.

Ignition parts get very expensive quickly, the DVA Meter is a great investment, 'cause if you keep boating, you WILL need it again.

Ohm it out, it ain't 100%, but better than guess'in!!

You can make a peak voltage adapter easily and use it with any digital voltmeter. Diagram below. The cap is a little hard to get, PM me if you want one - I have a few. :)

Mine just quit. Engine started one week and did not start the next. No spark, nothing. No prior indication of any electrical problem prior to the failure. It did not pass the peak volt test or the ohms test.

It's possible for a near miss lightning bolt to cause enough EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) current to take out a wad of electrical or electronic stuff. See it in telephones and computer communications all the time.

hope it helps

well, i have eliminated all the electrical components except the injector harness. i pull the injector rail and spun the engine and the spray pattern looked even through all six. ran the motor again and the pressure remained at 37lbs except when the motor would miss and the pressure would jump to 40-41lbs. at idle the motor wants to kill unless i hit the choke (enrichment) then idles fine for a few secsonds then back down to near kill.

U could still have a sensor jerk'in ya around...Map sensor , airflow sensor and the sensor on tha port hed will tell tha mota to leen ir rich'n....if'in tha sensor lie'z to tha ECU, tha ecu juss doez what it'z told....Maybe tha ECU iz stubborn, and not lissn'in to tha sensors???....MMMMM, gotta luv dat efi when it'z bein contankerous!!!.....Dem carbs don't gotta take no orders from then lil ole sensors!!!:D :D :D ....Did I tell ya how much I luv my carbs:D :D

Good luck, hope ya find tha grimilin!!!

i have had both. they both have there faults. but a efi on the fritz can drive you nuts.

check all your ground wires!!!!!!!!!!!!!! clean them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i ohmed out the airflow sensor and got a difference of 4 ohms compared to my neighbor's 260:D ( his watch dog didn't seem to mind either) can this little difference be the problem?
