2001 300x.

Last time I had this problem, I pulled the boat home and noticed there was a red wire that ran to what appears to be an alternator on the back of the block mounted up near the flywheel. Wire was loose, bought a new connecter, took boat out and it charged and I had no problems.

Today, boat is running fine, charging, no issues.

After a bit I trim the motor and it beeps at me, I look at the volt guage and notice it is low. (12 ish) so I stop the boat, both negative battery wires are loose. Tighten them up, check red wire on back of motor, re-start boat, charges. Ok cool problem fixed....wrong, 2 seconds later it stops charging. I was a good 20 miles from the launch so I drove it until the batteries completely died and then got a ride back to my truck......

Is the alternator shot? It seems to happen on rough rides like something got knocked loose....is there anything other then the alternator (like the module looking thingy that is belwo the Computer on hte drivers side of the motor) that I should check?

The module looking thing is where the red wire goes to the back of motor and to alternator.

Anyone have any ideas? And yes, you're welcome for the wonderfully technical terms.

pull the alternator (on back of motor near the flywheel) off. there is a regulator mounted on the back of the alternator. pull it off and ohm it out. I had a regulator go out and turns out the negative post on the regulator got hot and burnt in two. while you are taking it off take notice to all the wires making sure they have good connections as well. if the regulator ohms good your alternator is probably the culprit. you can have it tested to make sure.

I will start there. Thank you.
