I have a 1970 115 HP Mercury OB 2cycle model 1150. I noticed that it smokes white smoke. Is this normal for a 2cycle motor? Thanks for the information.
P.S. Thanks for all your help on the leak it was the return line leaking.

It's normal. How are you mixing you oil to gas? If you mix it too heavy.... 20:1 or 32:1 you will get considerable smoke but you will be protecting the engine better. But in general.....all 2 strokes smoke to some degree....

be sure it's smoke and not steam.
make sure your water pump is working properly.
most smoke is blue after the engine warms up.

Thanks for the info. The smoke will mostly show up at idle. When running at higher RPM the smoke will disappear (or at least seems like it). I am using 50:1 ratio. When it is warm it will still smoke white smoke at idle.

if you don't have a water pressure gauge, make sure your overheat sensor is working. if you haven't changed your impeller in the last couple of years, i would change it now.

steam will evaporate, 2 cycle smoke will be blue late in the day when you are out of direct sunlight. in the middle of the day 2 cycle smoke appears white. at cruising speed smoke goes under water because it blows out of the lower unit.
