Took my boat out this morning and it would barely get on plane, it acted as if it was running on about 3 cylinders. The motor is a 1993 200 XRi. The last time I had it out it ran fine now it will barely run. The compression is fine on all cylinders and all plugs are firing. Does anybody have any ideas as to what this could be. I am going to swap out the ECU Monday to see if that could be the problem.

How long ago did you have it out last..?
Is your gas fresh, etc..??
Was there gas in your Carbs's that could have messed them up.. from sitting ??

If all plugs are firing fuel is next ,you need to check the fuel pressure this should be checked while running the pump might put out enough flow to keep pressure up static or at idle but but not when the demand is high at power. If its low all the time it could be the pump or the regulator if it drops off at power most likely the pump. Also check the low pressure pump make sure its keeping the recirc can full. I would check the high speed windings in that stator.I can not recall the exact ohm readings. The rubber one way valve located at the bottom of the vapor seperator tank will break and make one run wierd too.

Looks like it is the ECU again. I have been through 2 analog ECU's and wondering if there is something that can be causing this.

It is a stock 200 ECU, as far as I could tell there was no limiter on either one. The first one which was the original would turn up to 7000 rpms, the other would turn up 6600 that I know of. I am going to go digital but wanted to wait until I rebuilt my motor, so I guess I will have to get one now. Rapair is only about 5 miles from where I work so there is no problem contacting them.

just rebuilt my 200XRi, did the heads, reeds, exhaust, etc... haven't tried to see how high she will rev (YET!). let me know how the Rapair works for you, may have to get one of those for mine....
anyone know the rough cost?
thx.sid

Every box prior to 1996 that I have used or seen was capable of 6500 or more. As far as getting one reprogrammed, don't waste your money unless it is a digital box. Most places charge around $350-$400. Tooter at J & J Marine will do it for around $375, Matt Riddle charges $395. They both get Rapair to do the programming. So either way you go you get the same results.

same year as yours..
does the reprogramming help? what specific do you get other than either a higher set rev limit or no limit?
$400 better do SOMETHING, I work to damn hard for the $$...

Like I said earlier if it is an analog box don't waste your money and if it is the same year it is an analog box. As far as benefit it all depends on what you want, they can do about anything you want. Whether it will benefit you or not I don't know. If you have a a 6200 rpm limiter then yes it will benefit as long as you can turn the motor more than that. If the motor is stock (no porting) there probably is no reason to change the fuel curve. My advice if it is an analog box leave it alone, just run it.

thanks,
I think I will wait until/IF I ever get it ported....
tach took a dump, but I was running with another boat that was turning his 30" 6200+ rpm ( I was running a 26") both are Big Ear Choppers without weed cutters....
thx.sid
