There used to be a check box that said "show active content on desktop", but I'll be damned if I can find it in XP.

What happens when you right click on the desktop, select properties, then the desktop tab, then browse and look for the picture you want to be your desktop? It's the long way, but a way to try it another way.

i think FORMAT is in my future:eek:

Might be easier than knockin yourself out trying to fix it, I'd run some good antispy and virus program first, then format it if no better. Stay off those porn sites! That's where you get that stuff:D :D

Is your wallpaper something that you didn't not choose and you cannot change it?

There are parts of the "policy" that can be changed by a virus or spyware which will enforce particular wallpapers, or just keep you from changing it. If this is the case, it can be reversed.

this "should" work for you! Although, clearly I'm not there to diagnose.

-go to start, run, type in gpedit.msc and hit ok
-now you're in the policy editor. (way cool stuff can go on in here that people don't know about, but it's mainly cool when you manage a corporation)
-under user configuration expand administrative templates and then control panel then display and you will see a setting for "prevent changing wallpaper". This should be set to "not configured"
-under user configuration expand administrative templates and then desktop then active desktop and you will see a setting for "active desktop wallpaper". This should be set to "not configured"

If those are already "not configured", something else is wrong, but this is the first place I'd look. These settings are for network admins who want to make wallpapers a company logo or something, or make it a colour of the users choice but not allow them to put up pictures, incase they're objectionable or something. Keep in mind, if it was a work computer by selecting these things on your domain controller (server) you implement the change on all the computers, bwhahaha (I remember when I made a guys wallpaper say "I love suking cawk" and I made his screensaver come on in 1 minute, and I changed his screensaver password, he had to turn his PC off and come hunt me down!!!)

And if it's working for you, when you're done, just close the window and reboot.

Hope this works for you.
