I've been looking for a very small digital camera that I can take anywhere with me, which will becoming very useful for a 'weblog' section I'll be adding to the site. Sort of a 'behind the scenes' section for Scream And Fly.

Anyway, I wanted something very small, but of course, I needed great image quality. After a lot of research, I purchased the Canon Powershot SD1000 (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=14901). This tiny little camera impresses the heck out of me. 7.1 megapixels, good 3x zoom lens, very fast and accurate focusing, and instant startup time. Above all of that, it takes fantastic photos - sharp and vibrant with good noise characteristics for a small-sensor camera. I'm not so sure I would use this for any sort of action photography, but I'll see what it can do anyway just for fun. I really could not be more pleased with it. I'll post some quick image samples shortly.

I tried out a bunch of point and shoot cameras a few months ago to help recommend a new one to a friend. The Canon SD1000 was the hands-down winner from my in-store testing. It's small, FAST and easy to use, and under $250. Awesome little camera.

I tell ya Chad, this little camera is great. I am really having a lot of fun with it - and I never thought I would enjoy a point-and-shoot camera so much. I'll take some sample pics soon...

take a look at the pentax's s 4 or s5. my wifes camera fits in a android box. like all small cameras the shutter lag is bad.

The Canon referenced in this thread could turn on, start up, and take a photo in about one second if I remember correctly. It was WAY quicker than any of the other small cameras available for those surprise "pull it out of your shirt pocket and shoot" situations.

Small camera's DON'T usually have much of any noticeable shutter lag, it's the focusing and metering lag that tends to annoy people. You can't just compose, mash the shutter button and wait. Once the camera's user understands how to "hold it down halfway" and prepare the shot, there isn't really any lag to speak of when you say "smile" and fire off the shot.

Cool... thats the kind of camera I was waiting for. If I want professional prints I'll have someone else do them. lol.

I bought the Coolpix Nikon S200 (http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=2&productNr=25561#) a couple of months back which is similar, at least in size:p . Have had good luck with it so far.

not quite as small, but i just bought an olympus that is shockproof and totally waterproof down to 30 ft, no external case or anything. It takes video and I think the pics are 7mp. I am sure the pic quality is not as good as the cannon mentioned above, but i have lost a few cameras in the boat, at the beach etc to water damage or dropping it. this one works for me for a carry around slip in my pocket thing when I don't want to bring the big stuff.

Last Christmas my step daughter wanted a digital camera sooo I went on a hunt for one. One of my criteria was, if I can't find the power button within 10 to 15 seconds after picking it up it's off the list. Second was, not too many buttons and positioned right. And easy to use.
After looking what was available at the stores in my area I picked the HP R967.

She just loves it, no problems at all.
