I just bouhght 74' 24 superboat that is my big winter project. It is a jet drive now that I am gonna remove and set the boat up with outboard(s). The question is, do I go with twin 2.4/2.5's or with a single 3.0. I have easy access to the 2.4's. Not so much the 3.0. And anybody have any idea on the setbacks and hight I want the brackets to be?
I can use as much help as possible when it comes to the engine setup. And advice would be greatly appreciated..

Those 24's are pretty quick with single power but really need a 3.0 or twins to go fast.. its a long hull to push with a single.

-Type of brackets ??? (Manufacture/ Style)
-20" or 25" motors ???
-Single or twins? Flat water cruiser or ruff water pounder ???
24's get wacky in the high 70's ...even wackier with twins.......but what does Bash know ???http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/3598/bashgm7.gif (http://imageshack.us)

GO TWINS !!!! IF YOU GONNA BE A BEAR BE A GRIZZLEY!!!!!
IF FOR NO OTHER REASON, TO ACCELERATE TO "HIGH 70'S"
FASTER THAN "DOC BASH!!!!":D
TWINS WITH BIG K-PLANES WILL HANDLE JUST FINE DONT WORRY!!
LIKE ANY OTHER HIGH-PERF BOAT IT WILL TAKE TIME AND SETUP TO GET IT RIGHT! AND PLENTY OF SEAT TIME!!!!!
TWINS WILL NEVER GET BORING AND I PROMISE A SINGLE WILL!!!!

Thanks for all the info so far, I really appreciate it..
All I wanna do is be able to get into the 70s. As far as brackets, heights, setbacks, shaft lengths go it is all up in the air. I have a set of 2.4's I think I am gonna build for it. The rest I still have to figure out and get. I was hoping that some of you guys who know could point me in the right direction as far as rigging it goes. Im on a bit of a budget right so it will take me some time to get her done, but i'm gonna do it right..
Hey BASH, as far as I can tell... you know alot man. Your boat is the boat that I want. But at 24 years old and just bought a house in Smithtown, I cant quit afford it yet if you know what I mean. So I took what I can get. It's an oldie but when I am done with it, it will be mint..

Hi!
I have a Phantom 25 with two Merc 2.5 EFI SS engines. before I ran a Promax 300 for 8 years. Twins are a whole new world. I would go for the twin option.
I only run with 2 inches of setbck, but I think 6 inches of setback should be a good starting point on your boat. The extra weight and power of the second engine will compensate for a lot of setback.
I will start with the propshafts approx. 1-2 inches below the bottom, and see how the boat runs. Mount the engines as close to eachother as possible. I have them 19 inches centerline to centerline.
Its no point using nosecones below 85 mph, so I will stick to standard lowerunit if possible. If low waterpressure, you can block the two upper waterintakes.
You can experiement spinning the props inward or outward. Spinning inward creates lots of lift, but my boat was unstable in high seas and high speeds. Especially with 4 blades props which have more tail lift than a 3 blade. I spin the props outward now, and the boat runs flat but is very stable indeed. Its like a train. However, this is my boat and its very narrow - only 5,5 feet wide.
With regards to props, I have good results with Hydromotive Quad X-O/B. Thats Hydromotives version of Merc Bravo 1. Hydromotive Quad X - O/T is also an option. For top speed runs Choppers and ET's works fine on my boat. I will test Hoss Hyperdrive this week end.
I run 88 mph at 7.500 rpms spinning Hydromotive Quad X - O/B 25 pitch props.
Good luck!

If high 70's is what you want, why would you give yourself the headaches and do twins??????? Bash runs high 70's all day long and WITHOUT the pain in the A$$ problems that twins will give you. Ask yourself if you would rather run it or work on it????????????;) Chuck

THANKS ALOT for all the info. I will definitly take you advice!!
The reason for twins is that I have access to a set of 2.4 200's right now. And alot of parts for them too. I can build 2 complete motors and a spare powerhead or mabye even 2, for 1/3 the price it will cost me to get a 3.0l.
I am still debating.. Like I said the boat is a project and I have time till I have to decide what I wanna do.
