View Full Version : Would you use this crank
I bouhgt this from an individual that described this as useable for a high performance motor. Says his engine builder says use it. I am not an engine builder though I have built many and had good luck. This was for a 260 to be ported and planned on having good power. Not a fishin motor by any means.
Mains and top bearing look good. Top 4 cylinders look good. 5 is borderline but acceptable but I can't imagine anyone saying 6 is useable. I would like opinions from some builders before I call the guy. I could be out of line and I don't want to look unreasonable. Appreciate your time and opinions.

Hard to tell from the pictures but I would be leery to use that on a Serious HiPo motor.
The picture is bad. Typical for me. The small spots you see would likely not be a big issue as the bearing would span them. The groove that is to the right of the spots does look like a major problem to me due to how close it is to the end of the needle. The bigger problem, which doesn't show up in the pic, is the finish on journal 6 and 5. It isn't even comparable to the finish on all other journals on the crank. The crank is going out to Dave Eden. He has done them for me before with outstanding results. I will not build this motor without confidence in the crank.
The seller did tell me if I was not happy, he would take it back. I will contact him and see if he wants to participate in the repair expense or possibly trade for useable crank. Appreciate the opinions.
