Got a 65 Merc 90 I-6 on a 14ft Power Cat. Motors jacked up so prop shaft is even with bottom of outside hulls.Got a 1500XS lower for low water pickup. Put a 14 1/4 X24 chopper on and had hard time planing off and once up it just didn't rev up or get much speed. Dropped engine couple of inches and put on 13 1/2 X17 alum prop. Got up on plane better, but once up it went only about 32mph. I've got good compression[ 126-128 all]. Just won't rev up and seems to burn alot of gas. Boat does't weigh much and is only 12'9" plus another 6" for the jack plate. Any thoughts? I'm gettin annoyed and have been thinking 115 or 150 powerhead but I don't want to overpower. Gary

try tilting the engine up about 10-15 degrees and squeezing the bulb not hard but firmly. If fuel pours out the front you likely have a seat leaking... Could be several things... but that's something to check. Might also be weak ignition..

Ignition seems OK. Found bad diaphragms on fuel pumps. Will also check for leaky seat. Prop shop has new prop for me to try. Thanks for your suggestion. Will prob hear from me. Wondering if you can do low water pickup on my 1965 lower unit. Gary
