View Full Version : Who wants to buy Leakdown Testers ???? If there is enough, I will build some !!!!!!

Ok, I asked in a recent post how many guys wanted one. It didn't look like there was much interest there. I am asking again becuase I have had a fair amount of PM's and e-mails looking for them. I need to manufacture and build these things in pretty big batches or just isn't worth the effort.
Reply here if you are interested. If there is enough interest I will build a batch again.
I will only be building the "MEGA BALT" on this batch. It's what 95% of the people want anyway.
THEY WILL STILL BE PRICED AT $155.00 WHICH INCLUDE SHIPPING IN THE LOWER 48 STATES.
Here is a link to the site with the info.

All models come with complete easy to understand instructions. You can go to the instruction page on this website and download the instructions for all models. This is the lifeblood of troubleshooting any internal combustion engine. Without it, you are just guessing.
Unlike store bought units, the gauges on these are matched to insure accuracy. Even good quality gauges are +/- 2% so if you don't match up and calibrate the gauges your percentage of leakdown could be off by that amount.
Everyone remembers how to do a compression test: Screw in the tester, flip the kill switch to "off", hold the throttle wide open, and hit the starter. The cylinder takes in air and compresses it, and the tester traps it. The maximum is reached when the gauge holds the maximum pressure that the engine can produce. The weakness of this test is that throttle position, engine temperature, ambient air temperature, and a host of other factors can make the results vary considerably. What's worse, a compression test checks too many engine components at the same time. A poor reading can indicate so many things, it's hard to tell which engine part is at fault without doing a lot of other tests. A leakdown tester avoids this difficulty. Air is pumped into the cylinder from an outside source. The large gauge reads the percentage that escapes. This not only eliminates all of the aforementioned variables, but also as a bonus, makes it a simple matter to pinpoint the source of the leakage by rotating the engine while the test is underway.

What a deal. Ill definatly take one and probably another for the shop. Also, do you have, or know where I could get, an adaptor for the 4 stroke outboards with the smaller plugs. Thanks.

What size thread is on these smaller plugs? I can probably make the adapter you need.

Hey Balzy, 12mm for that adapter. I looked in my merc tech guide and it gives me a part # MT26-18 from snap on but I dont see that # anywhere in the catalog or the pricebook. Im sure I could find one somewhere, but if ya could make one up easy enough, that would be great. let me know how much. Thanks again

or ya could put an NPT air fitting at the end of the BALT and use the compression tester adaptors for the respective plug styles... that is what I did on mine... gauge set has a NPT air female chuck on end and i use my compression tester plug incerts to test... 1 gauge 6 different adaptors all same readings consistantly across all adaptors due to only 1 connection per adaptor versus 2 connections on one size or 1 connection on anoter..

Ok, we are getting close to enough to build a batch. With the interest here and the e-mails and PM's I have gotten we are getting close to putting this together.
<O:p</O:p
Please be patient and remember that "I" am the one that has to lay out about $3000 to get the components to build a batch. If a few guys back out and I have to carry units as inventory, it's money out of my pocket until they sell.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
Tell your buds to get on here and commit to one. If we get about 6 more units, I can start ordering parts and hopefully I can start shipping in about 2 weeks.<O:p</O:p
