I just bolted on a 260SS with 12' Setback to a Center Steer 2000SS. I would like to get suggestions on which types on props to try to get a good combination of Mid Range, Top End, and ease of drivability. I am using a 26p 3 blade junker (make unknown) at this point to shake out various bugs.

I would think that a 28 or 29p drag style prop may be what I'm looking for since bow and/or stearn lift should be at a minimum. Am I correct?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

First of all, for that boat, I'd say 12" of setback is too much. I'd go 9" and make sure the battery is in the back of the boat. Second of all, for running around on the lake, you're correct, a prop such as a Yamaha copy (has more rake than the standard Yamahas did) would be a very good prop - go with a 30" as they'll slip more than a round ear will.

Another great prop is the Bombardier SRX 29" Good bow lift, low torque - works great and is inexpensive - $450 including prop hardware that'll let you put the OMC/Bomardier props right on your Mercury.

Let me know. I can get an SRX and hardware out to you right away. I also have 2 26" Small Blade choppers that have been worked which make great small lake props on that boat.

A few of us on the board have or are about to acquire some of the Hydromotive Engineering T3X/T4X props. You might want to check out their website. I have ordered a T4X to try on the Mirage.

Check back on the board for the "real world" test results on these props.

Sam,

I appreciate the suggestions. I purchase the boat and the jackplate from a guy that bounght the rig from Jaco. He was running a 225SS on this Allison manual jackplate set at 10" (10+2=12).

Are you suggesting a 7" setback on the plate (7+2=9)?

Keith

P.S. On those SRX 29's, is that $450 to my door?
