After reading other posts and people saying a nose cone is only good after 80 mph (mine won`t come near that speed), I`m thinking about taking it off. Its starting to chip and crack in a few spots so I spoke to the other owner that installed it. He said that he`d epoxied the old water inlets shut. Is that normal? What about the water pressure gauge. Any other concerns or helpful hints? Thanks in advance.

If you run your engine high I would leave it on. Yes, it is common pratice to fill up the old holes so it will not fill with water, freeze, and crack the case. It is also commoing to have to do the repairs needed depending on materials used. You may also not like how much work is needed to remove it. IMO.

if it has low water PU leave it alone. yes it will cause 1-2 mph reduction when buried in the water but once you get it up in heigth it will help you add mph. and you will not have over heating problems. i tried to remove one and gave up the land and sea epoxy even with heat would let go.

The speed you lose due to drag is recovered when you are able to raise it
with no trouble overheating... maybe more! I would leave it!
