View Full Version : 2.4BP water getting inside to crank?
I exploded one of my EFI Bridgeports last month wiping everything out( block, crank, etc..). After it was ripped down you can see that water somehow got to the crank, bearings, there was a coating of orange (rust) on everything and the journals were worn. I know if the motor sucked in water through the exhaust (say motor was running when you dunked her off trailer on a high pitch) you can get water in that way, but how else??

rich would know:eek:
Hey Frank
I was at Rich's last night and he showed me all of the damage and gave me a heads up that it could happen if the motor was running on a steep pitch running while backing it in. I think the damage was done before I owned the motors (I hope the other isn't going to explode like this one :D)
I get the engine back next week, slap it together Saturday and see if the modifications to setup and hull will make me "ScreamandFly".

Most common cause, and also the most overlooked, is bottom crankshaft seals. It pulls water in and circulates it through the entire powerhead by way of the re-circulation system.

Believe it or not but a broken reed can cause water to enter cyl.

I had a Yamaha 150 on my saltwater fishing boat that had a crack in the number 6 exhaust port that did the same thing.
