As I ponder the 'net and other means to find a replacement engine (probably the whole thing), I keep wondering if I could mount a 25" shaft motor where my 20" is now. Current setup has 20" motor on second to lowest mounting holes on offset plate and cavitation plate is still about 3" above keel. Couldn't I bolt a 25" motor (if that's the deal I find)
Comments?

after seeing how the motor is mounted. you would spend more money to change to a 25 to 20 [or get another motor], then it would be to junk that mounting bracket. getting a normal JP even with hydraulics, would be cheaper. i bought a bob's hyd w/guage used for $500
its a long shipping distance but i do have the parts to for a 25 conversion. you need a 25 mid, 25 drive shaft mountedin the LU, 25 water tub and shift rod.......

It really depends on where your prop shaft should be for your boat. Putting a 20" engine on 20" transom makes sense. Putting a 25" on a 20" transom means jacking it up 5" just to be where you are. I think your plate/setting will only allow raising it 2,1/4"?
Usually people are trying to get the prop shaft centerline close to the bottom of the pad. Your way way deeper than this, a 27 just buries:rolleyes: you more.:D Your shaft is maybe a foot under the pad? Your entire prop is buried.
You could get another powerhead and pop it on your present leg. Or have yours rebuilt, or rebuild it yourself. Depending on whats dead on it might be the best/cheapest.
These are kind of like chevies. Everything is available and fits just about everything. On top of that it super easy to work on. The engine only wieghs 200 lbs and one nut used his gorilla arms and back as an engine hoist.
