On the old style 2.5/260 (16amp) what the best batterys to use to hold solid voltage?

I use a Delco Cranking Batterie 1035 cranking amps I believe and 860 I think cold cranking amps. We fish at night running lights and the live wells and have never had any problems! The numbers could be a little off but I think they are close! Bryan

I saw a guy win a race at Hanska last week. One of the tricks he used was to replace the cranking battery with a nice fresh lawnmower battery. Saved him about 20 lbs, which accounts for the halfaboatlength he won by.

check out the pc680. bad MF for a lil 15lb battery, thats what I use in my boat, and for a "garage battery" (it'll start a 6L chevy v8 in a trailblazerSS, no problem, btw)... the bigger ones are good for less maintenance, and they still weigh less, amp for amp, than anything else.

We need this for a Race Application, so a good continues current and deep cycle will be needed at all times. The previous owner of the boat had a couple Odysseys Light Weight Jet Ski Batteries that worked fine for a set of 40amp / 280.hp Merc’s. On our 260/hp Merc’s we only have a 16amp charge system so the little batteries just cant keep up with the electronics under load.

you'll probably want the PC1200 or 1500 then...
PC 1200 Specs:
1200 cranking amps for 5 seconds
1090 cranking amps for 10 seconds
900 cranking amps for 20 seconds
825 cranking amps for 30 seconds
Short circuit current over 2600A
44 amp hours
78 minute reserve capacity with 25amp load
CCA - 55037lbs
PC 1500 Specs:
1500 cranking amps for 5 seconds
1280 cranking amps for 10 seconds
1170 cranking amps for 20 seconds
1100 cranking amps for 30 seconds
Short circuit current over 5000A
Absorbent glass mat (AGM) technology
12V battery pure lead VRLA
BCI Group 34 footprint - dual purpose
BCI Group 34/78 footprint - dual purpose
Rugged construction
Can be mounted in any orientation except inverted.
Lifting handle
US DOT and IATA certified non-spillable
Shipped fully charged - just install and go!
Container and cover made from oil resistant plasticand 49lbs
680 works fine for drag racing
925 or 1200 for lake use, though I did run a 680 on the lake for one year and never once charged the battery.
All other batteries suck compared to odyssey.
You do need a good HIGH amp charger though. I charge mine at 30 amps and 13volts, if you trickle them you ruin them.

From the website:
Step 1 - Charger output voltage
Determining the charger output voltage is the most important step in the charger qualification process. If the voltage output from the charger is less than 14.2V or more than 15V for a 12V battery do not use the charger. This output voltage is measured on the battery terminals with the charger charging, the voltage is steady and the output current has begun to decline. For 24V battery systems the charger output voltage should be between 28.4V and 30V. If the charger output voltage falls within these voltage limits when the battery approaches a fully charged state, low output current, proceed to Step 2; otherwise pick another charger.
my charger is from Odyssey..... it might be greater than 13v. It has a digital readout on amps. It runs on average 31-32.5 amps

13v might be the rating, but in odysseys literature they tell you how to measure it (2 different ways of looking at it). if you put a meter on that charger while its on the batt and charging, it would read above its "rating"- probably something like 14.6 volts. my 280 charges that battery at slightly less than 15v  those odyssey chargers are sweet.

Ok, another quick qestion - Should I look at a Deep Cycle battery? They do seem heavy, but weight is not a huge deal.

I have used the Pc625 PWC Odessey at 13lbs on my Merc Drag with 21cc heads on the lake with limited use and was shocked it never let me down:eek:Key word here is limited use, makes a great batt for the boatdrags, just charge between rounds
