View Full Version : Crossflow gold flywheel problems

Two issues I need advise on:

Got a second effort flex flywheel. When I put it on, the starter would engage, but wouldn't crank over. Tried a different battery - same thing. Tried a different starter - same thing. Put a stock one on - worked fine. I am fairly sure it is a crossflow flywheel because the timing degree marks are on for all 6 cyl and are "odd fire"

When I tightened the flywheel nut I used a 3/4" drive socket and damaged the threads for the puller. Anyone know where I could get the threads repaired? They are not real bad, but bad enough that I want them fixed or a good alternative flywheel pulling method prior to reinstallation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wind the starter gear up the shaft by hand and see how it engages. I would guess obvious interference if it is bound so tight it will not turn over. I suppose you can shim the starter mounts if you need clearance but the my wheels have never needed any. How many teeth on the flywheel? A V6 crossflow wheel should have 115.

A machinist that does general repair would be the best source for opinion on repairing the threads you buggered. It they are bad, it probably means cutting new oversize which also means a new custom puller. It sounds like you have a puller, will it thread in at all with the damaged threads?

If you have to, you can pull it using long bolts into the hub.

So you can turn it over by hand? I had to take some material off the spacer to let the starter gear travel higher so it would stay engaged, but that is it.
