I have read so many threads on improved performance all around with Mods to a SM foot. So who does what? I have heard of Baker Mods, Titus mods, Sanderson mods, Allison mods? etc etc. what EXACTLY does each guy do and what are the differences? I am running an xb2002 with a 225 with some engine mods.

I was hoping someone better would answer this but I'll take a stab at it and let the errors be de-errized.

So who does what? They should all do any of the mods. I can't say but a phone call or someone from the board can narrow this. Just as an example since his name was on several threads lately Titus mods. Its him doing it but he isn't doing only an allison cut.

Allison mods are the only one that specifically carry a name, this is for an Allison of course. STVs would be done differently as would other boats. Its kind of like working a prop. It would be worked differently depending on what it was going on, the LU is even more so.

what EXACTLY does each guy do and what are the differences? As mentioned they all do what you need them to do. You tell them what you got and they pull the skills out of their magic bag.

Generally the skeg is reformed something like an airfoil. I know this acts like a built in trim tab but also think it doing what a planes wing is doing too, lift only sideways. One function counteracts torque steer the other is killing the rear sliding from the paddle wheeling prop. Torque steer is one thing but to counter the sliding you have to run the unit at a slight angle to maintain straight. This is wastefull. If the unit can do some of this itself your straighter, less lossy, faster.
The skeg can be shortened. And the sweep can be increased.
Then there is the bullet. Theres some material removed from areas of the bullet and the intakes are modified. It all has to do with flow and how its lifting the bullet, the rear end of the boat. Intakes how much friction they were generating and now they ain't.

The whole point of doing this work is to get anything you can from this stock unit made for anykind of boat. Now it is changed to do its best for your boat and also improved water flow past it. It might even have a stress relief added.

So you get reduced torque steer, more thrust, less drag. All three add up to more free power. But you also have less torque with no torque tab.;)

One other thing is this isn't for SMs only. An LU with an added bullet won't have the bullet put on dead center, dead middle. Some do but this is also a modification point:D . Just by plopping it a tiny idgit off the exact center point you make a difference. Think of it set to the side and you can see its now a torque tab. I guess it would be more a canard tab?
